Heat is all well and good, but you have to be able to adjust to what the offense is doing. We've taken many of the defensive problem areas you are likely to encounter and broken down ways that you can put them on lockdown.
Jetpack Blitzes. It didn't take ballers very long to realize that the spectatcular catch and Jetpack are easy ways to move the ball. Charles dug into the lab and has put together a series of blitz schemes geared towards putting the jetpack on lockdown.
 
Run Defense vs. Big Sets. Alright the big sets and the sweeps and FB Dives are a problem. In this section Charles looks at several ways to stay in the game and contain this style of offense. He teaches you to set up combo plays that will deal with the FB Dive as well as the Toss and Sweeps out of the big sets such as Full House Strong, Full House Weak, I Form Twin TE, Strong I Twin TE ect.,
 
Spy Manual Blitz. A nasty little A-Gap overload play that will have the QB laying flat on his back in no time at all.

"Learn How to Setup a Killer 3-4 Run Defense"

The biggest issue with the 3-4 is stopping the run. In the NFL the top run defense teams are 3-4 teams. They are San Diego, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh. All of these teams are top five in run defense.

In real life the Nose Tackle is the key cog in the 3-4 defense as he draws the double team which allows the Inside Linebackers to wreak havoc. The Chargers, for instance, have a three way stunt package in their defense that allows them to always be deceptive and stop the run.

The Nose Tackle is the key component in stopping the run because of his disruptive nature. He generally draws the double team block.

Unfortunately we do not have that luxury in Madden. Everything is single blocking (man on man/big on big). So you will need to get creative with the Linebacker stunt package or else stopping the run will be a big frustration.

Cover 0 – Over Storm Brave and MLB Blitz

The Over Storm Brave can be run exactly like it is to get pressure on the QB.  But, the normal setup can be blocked rather easily.  Here I will look at an overload setup that is very difficult for the offense to block even if they go with max protection.

  • Move the ROLB or the LOLB directly over the Center
  • Pinch the Linebackers and line up double A gap blitz
  • Call press coverage

The 2-4-5 is a flexible defensive set and is great against the shotgun if we get creative with it.  Now I want you to look at this offensive formation.  We have a HB lined up on the right.  Ideally we will want to overload the left or the middle.


I’m going to show you the middle overload alignment.  The first thing I do is grab one of the OLB’s.  In this case since I want the back to block to the right I grab the ROLB.

I am going to take him and move him directly over the Center.  I get him really close to the ball without moving him offsides.

Now, I pinch the linebackers and make sure they line up Double A Fire.  Finally, I will go with press coverage on the outside.



As the QB receives the football we get both Inside Linebackers firing up the middle.

The three step window for the QB to pass closes rather quickly.
