Below is a post written by fellow EA SPORTS Gamechanger Paakaa10.

Brian goes over some of his favorite rivalry games in NCAA Football 13. I’m not sure how he missed the “U Game” but I’ll let it slide this time Brian. It is UMASS first season in the big leagues.

Hello again, college football fans; Brian Parker here from the EA SPORTS Game Changers to share “5 Underrated Rivalry Games in NCAA Football 13”!  We’ve already taken a look at the “Top 5 Rivalry Games”, so now we’re going to look at some games which have just as much importance to their fanbases without as much of the national spotlight.

Miami University RedHawks versus Cincinnati Bearcats

Battle for the Bell

October 6th, 2012

The Victory Bell is the trophy at stake when the Miami University RedHawks and Cincinnati Bearcats square off in the “Battle for the Bell,” a rivalry series which originated in 1888.  Despite being in separate conferences, these in-state rivals still face each other every season.  The RedHawks lead the series with 59 wins, 50 losses, and 7 ties, although Cincinnati has won the last 6 meetings going back to 2006.  Last year’s game was a shutout victory for the Bearcats, 37-0 on the road in Oxford, Ohio.  This year, the Bearcats will get home field advantage when the battle is renewed.

Kansas State Wildcats versus Kansas Jayhawks

Sunflower Showdown

October 6th, 2012

These Big XII Conference—and in-state—rivals play against each other every year in the “Sunflower Showdown”, with possession of the Governor’s Cup on the line.  The teams have been meeting since 1902, but the trophy didn’t come along until 1969.  Since the inception of the Governor’s Cup, Kansas State holds the lead in the rivalry series with 23 wins, 19 losses, and a single tie; although, if you ask a Jayhawk fan, they might tell you that K-State’s lead is 22 wins, 20 losses, and the tie.  It just wouldn’t be a rivalry if there weren’t some disputed results!  The Wildcats have won the last three meetings, including a 59-21 victory on October 22nd, 2011.

Colorado State Rams versus Wyoming Cowboys

Border War

November 3rd, 2012

These two schools first played in 1899, and the Bronze Boot trophy has been the prize for the winner of the game since 1968; with over 100 games played between Colorado State and Wyoming, it ranks as one of the oldest rivalries in college football.  The Rams lead the all-time series with 55 wins, 43 losses, and 5 ties, but the Cowboys lead the trophy games with 23 wins and 21 losses.  Wyoming has won the last three meetings, including a December 3rd game at Fort Collins where the Cowboys won 22-19.  Will the Rams avoid a fourth straight loss on the road this season?

Arizona State Sun Devils versus Arizona Wildcats

Duel in the Desert

November 23rd, 2012

First played in 1899, the “Duel in the Desert” is the yearly meeting between the Sun Devils and the Wildcats with the Territorial Cup on the line; the NCAA has certified the Territorial Cup to be the oldest such trophy in the United States.  With 85 games played between the two schools, the Wildcats hold a 10-game lead with a record of 47 wins, 37 losses, and a tie.  In recent years, the teams have traded victories, Arizona won at home 20-17 in 2009, the Sun Devils won 30-29 at home in 2010, and last season the Wildcats won 31-27 on the road.  This year’s game will be played in Tucson; can Arizona defend their home field and win for the second season in a row?

Texas State Bobcats versus UTSA Roadrunners

I-35 Orange vs. Maroon Rivalry

November 24th, 2012

Two of the newest schools in NCAA Football 13 bring with them a rivalry which is already tailor-made for college football gamers; the I-35 Orange vs. Maroon Rivalry.  The rivalry uses a point system to track the results of meetings in multiple sports between the two schools, with the overall winner receiving a trophy that they keep for the year until the next winner is determined.  Texas State won the inaugural rivalry trophy in 2007-2008, and UTSA won the next year’s trophy; since then, the Bobcats have won the past two competitions.  Which school will find victory this year as football gets added to the schedule with a showdown at the Alamodome?

These five games are just a small sample of some of the lesser-known rivalry games which can be found in NCAA Football 13; which is your favorite?  Be sure to let us know in the comments!
