Last time on Zan’s Corner, he broke down the Jets Slot Post from the New York Jets playbook and explained why it’s one of the better base plays in Madden NFL 13.
In this video, we show you how to dictate the pace of the game on defense, while only sending two. This coverage D is one of the better stock coverages in Madden NFL 13, because you already have stock buzz zones on both sides with a Cover 3 shell.
Last time on Zans Corner we broke down the Singleback Normal formation from the New England Patriots formation.
Today we will take a look at the Gun Snugs Jets Slot Post from the New York Jets playbook. Two years ago when this play was introduced to Madden we theorized why it was going to be one of the best plays in the game. Zan revisits this play and shows us again why its such a dangerous play in Madden NFL 13.
Credit to Dillooo for submitting this fantastic tip.
Many weeks ago when Dillooo showed me this and we were labbing it in practice mode, I thought that this was too good to not already be out there in the community. But days went by. Days turned into weeks, and weeks are starting to turn into months. With Dillooo’s approval, we are going to take a look at one of the more slept on plays in the game. Pound for pound, I’d argue this to be the best passing play in Madden 13. Take a look!
Last time on Zan’s Corner, he broke down the 4-4 formation and showed how to have effective coverage from an aggressive formation.
Today Zan takes a look at the New England Patriots playbook and shows why the Singleback Normal can be one of the most effective formations in the game!
The Singleback Normal Patriots formation can be used as a mix-in for your New England offensive scheme, or for the entire game as your base formation. It is one of the most flexible formations in Madden NFL 13, because you have an effective run game, screen game, and pass game all in one package.
Audibles (all from Singleback Normal Patriots):
1. HB Draw
2. HB Wk Zone
3. FL Middle
4. Slot Screen
5. PA TE Screen
Today we will take a look at the 4-4 defense (43 playbook) and see why it’s not only a great formation for blitzing but for playing coverage as well!
The 4-4 defense is well known to bring some of the best gap heat in Madden NFL 13, but not much is out there in terms of setting up coverage defense, since the formation employs eight in the box. With this setup, you’ll have a better time mixing up pressure and coverage (without giving up all pass rush ability when dropping back).
4-4 Zone Blitz Setup
1. Bump-n-run
2. Spread the linebackers
3. From left to right on the defensive line: purple, spy, flat, purple
4. User the left MLB in a hook zone
Last time on Zan’s Corner he broke down a 49ers Run Heavy scheme. Today Zan takes time to showcase how to defend one of the most used offensive formations in Madden NFL 13: the Gun Heavy Panther.
The primary focus of this defense is to utilize the balance of the Dollar 3-2-6 formation. Take a peek at the video and see how you can start locking down this formation NOW!

In this video, we break down my entire I-Form Niners Heavy scheme, and how I best complement it with the Goal Line formation. This scheme is best utilized by teams with 1-2 solid RBs, at least 1 good TE, and 1 pass/run-blocking FB. I would recommend the 49ers, Giants, Patriots, and Cowboys for teams to start using this scheme with.
Audibles:
I-Form Niners Heavy: HB Counter Weak
I-Form Niners Heavy: TE Tight PA Boot
Goal Line: Strong Toss
Goal Line: FB Dive or QB Sneak
Goal Line: The play you didn’t choose above or TE Tight Lead/Power O
Rules for the formation:
1. When running the Counter, motion snap the offset back out of his 3-point stance for better blocking.
2. Attack the flats with swing patterns if your opponent is man blitzing: someone will be forced to chase all the way across the field.
3. Motion-snap the SE (split end) inside for better release vs. press coverage.
Last time on Zan’s Corner we saw him break down the Odd OLB Blitz. This week he will teach us how to effectively lab a blitz.
First and foremost, let’s all give a big congratulations to Zan for being selected into the EA SPORTS Game Changers program. Zan has been putting in work over the years giving out Madden tips and advice and has been a huge contributor to what we have been doing.
Now on to the good stuff. This week in Zan’s Corner he’s going to break down how to effectively lab a blitz on the defensive side of the ball.
Many of the better blitzes in Madden NFL 13 are made by just tweaking one or two things. Watch as we take a step-by-step approach to take a play from zero to hero.
Madden Tip Nation member Zan is using NFL knowledge and breakdowns to “4wardProgress” the Madden NFL 13 tips community. Each week during the Madden NFL 13 season he will bring you tips from “Zan’s Corner” to help elevate your game to the next level!
New York Giants Playbook
NASCAR
Odd OLB Dogs Blitz
Setup
1. Show blitz.
2. Reblitz “Kiwi” over the RG.
3. QB Contain the right-of-screen DE.
This play will be quick to set up, and that’s what we love about Zan. He’s a no-BS kinda guy who gives you setups that are efficient and effective. On this play he is generating a “twist” pass rush that springs free one of the best pass rushers in the league, Jason Pierre-Paul. Will you use this play during the Madden NFL 13 season?

The new Zan D!
Check out Zan’s advice for running this defensive play!
The New York Giants really liked to cause confusion by rushing an extra LB from a 2-point stance from a depth of 2-3 yards off the line of scrimmage. This player seems to be “roaming,” which can really cause confusion on the offensive line. Watch to see how you can replicate what the G-Men do in real life in the Madden NFL 13 demo!
