Beating All Coverage

Overview :  All coverage is one thing that most people will do to you when they can't get to you via heat or slow you down with regular coverage.  The problem with 11 men on the field is that it can cause people problems if they have never seen it before.  The key to beating this type of coverage is easy.  I have done the lab work for you and all you have to do is hit the practice field.  What this section will do is show you a few ways to beat it through route running and play calling.

The Cross Punch is the most used play in Madden 08 today.  This formation alone has won its share of Madden tourneys.  Since our opponent knows this, they have decided to put everyone in coverage.

This is one look that you may see.  You may get some deep blues instead of the half hook. Still, you have all 11 defensive men in coverage.

I re-flipped the play to get this set a little closer or more compressed. I want this to get my picks and rubs in sooner rather than later.

What I have found is that crossing routes kill all coverage.  The key is to have your men out run the coverage and get some picks along the way. You don't have to worry about pressure as much because no one is coming in. So you have time to allow your men to get open.

You can see that the receivers are getting open from picks and they are about to get some seperation.

You saw the HB from the jump, but you see from me using the tilt screen I have a deep lob coming from the post route by Stallworth.  I also have Moss open to the right side of the field.

You see here that Stallworth has position and he has his man beat.

Easy catch and 6 points just like that. The key was I allowed him to get time to run his route and was able to beat the defense deep.

I use another play and have some people move around a bit with the packages that are there for you in this formation.

Routes like drags, digs, outs, and slants do very well against this type of defense. All you have to do is just wait till someone gets open.

You see here that Moss is open because Watson has pushed the defense towards the right side of the field.

You also see that Moss is waving his hand and his defender is a few steps behind him.

Moss made the easy catch and now the defense is getting pissed. You're dotting his all coverage with no problems at all.

This is another play that has crossing routes, but the HB will get in on the fun now.

You are still getting all coverage with man a behind it and two safeties playing deep.

You see that all of the men are getting in their routes and some picks are about to be made.

You see that some men are getting picked and I have some openings about to get open. When you face this coverage you have to wait. Don't get mad. Just wait till your men get free. You have no pass rush so just chill.

Now you see the openings. You have one in the middle, and two outside.

I hit the HB in the middle for the easy catch.  With his ability, I can make some more yards.
