I know this might sound like a easy question but I wanted to know your guys phylosiphy

I read somewhere some coach teach "throw to open space" which I ususally do.

Others said " Throw through windows" or "throw as long as there is not a defender in between the path of the ball and the reciever"

I know it migh sound like there are one in the same but how would you describe your philosphy?

The reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to start read more high to low and I've been having problems staring down my initial read. When I'm reading low to high I don't have this problem, but starting high it seems like I wait for it to develope more. And by that time I get fixated on the player or a space that was open imediately post snap becomes covered and then I have no options left.

i go by routes primary, secondary, and tertiary and checkdown(if there is one).

I'm talking about your defenition on when the player is open enough to throw to.

it depends on the player your throwing to and judging by how open they are. I guess i run certain plays and know which routes will always be there aginst which coverages. Its pretty easy to tell when someone is open and isnt.

An open receiver is when there is nobody in between the QB and the receiver who can disrupt the pass.

"throw to open space"

Typically throwing at zone coverage. Throwing the ball when there "is" a defender in front so by the time the pass gets there he's open.

" Throw through windows"

You will see windows open up all over the place as a Q.B. Most of these references are for facing zone coverage. A window would be like a WR running a slant and him opening up inbetween the corner and LB. That would be a window.

However both of these things mean the same thing.

I think you stated the problem by reading high to low in your own post.

I try to use the similar style as snapsonic, with a primary, secondary and checkdown... I don't always seem to have the time to look at the third option prior to checking down.

The primary routes should be the quickest player to get open, then the secondary etc....

I know this might sound dumb but I never thought of it like that. I know I do it but I never thought of that way. Kinda clears it up. K.I.S.S.

I consider a receiver open if I can throw the ball in a location where ONLY he can catch it. If there is even a slight chance the defender can even lay a hand on the ball before it reaches my receiver, then he isn't open.

When no one is between the QB and the receiver, like michura said.

open reciever is when you have a window where the defense without making a outstanding play on the ball can't normally defend and will have to try and tackle after the ball is caught and most important a window of space where the defender can't intercept

I responded to this question in the college thread.
