I've had good success past couple of games stopping the deep passing game. I keep my two safety's back. Once the the ball is thrown up, instead of getting between the receiver and the ball, I put my safety on the other side of the ball landing location. Once the ball just gets near the receiver KAPOW I L2 his butt and the ball pops up for an INT or is incomplete. I haven't been beat long yet with this technique, heck I can't remember anyone catching it. This was recommended in 101, I guess they were trying to give everyone a hint. It works well. Obviously staying deep all game long has its disadvantages, but definetly on 3rd and long situations its a nice technique.

yes that philosophy works well against any pass if you can get in the way of the WR. here's where the problem lies for you though. if i were playin you and saw you had your safties back like that, i'd find a play that had 2 WR's on the same side of the field, find a play that has one of them doin either a post or a flag. come up to the LOS hot route the other to do a streak and use that as bait while i throw to the guy doin the post/flag. be careful is all i'm sayin

if it ain't broke, don't fix it

My safeties have like 78 speed so everyone gets behind them, I'll give it a shot though

I thought about doing the same, but it's risky. I mean, it's hard enough trying to keep the safety behind the receiver, when they have a nasty habit of being able to just blow by anyone and everyone. And that's not to mention what you've already stated...you're leaving yourself open for practically anything else. But at this point, I think I'm just about like everyone else when I say that I'd be OK with getting beat with ANYTHING but the damned deep ball.
