We all (including me) like to criticize when we don't get what we expect when we buy something, but rarely do we say anything at all when we get more than we expect from a product. I just bought the VG Sports Virtual Playbook for Madden 09 the other day, and started reading through the Strategy section last night. I learned a TON of stuff from it that I never knew before on the running game. After finishing it, I went in to the Practice mode and started trying the suggestions I had just finished reading. Well, old habits die hard (like hitting the Sprint button the second I get the ball :o), but when I finally managed to keep my finger off the R2 button (PS3) and follow my blockers and use a bit of stick, voila! Things really started to fall into place! These guys who wrote this material know their stuff, and at least for guys like me who when they tried the Madden IQ Test, instead of a number coming up, a message appeared instead that said, "Stick to Pong - we'll both be happier!!" :D, this manual is really going to make a difference. Perhaps even more than in Madden 09 though, is that when I watch a real game now, I can see that the game mimics the real thing remarkably well, so this guide is also teaching me about real football. It's so much better to watch when you can start picking out the subtelties of the real game, and that can carry over to Madden.
Anyway, often people who praise things often get ripped for being a suck-up or folks think they are related to the owner somehow, but in this case neither is true. I just think we need to sometimes let people know when they are doing something right in other ways than just with our wallets. Thus the purpose of this post.
