View Full Version : My gripes about the game:

1. Playbooks are awful. 60% of NCAA teams have some sort of power off tackle play. Ohio State uses several variations of it and it's nowhere to be found in their (or anyone else's) playbook.

2. Defenders are entirely too fast when you're trying to get outside. If I have a 97 speed punt returner with 97 ACCL, I should be able to get around the corner on occasion without a 70 speed defensive end or a 76 speed linebacker beating me the the edge. I don't care if they have the angle or not... speed matters! I have yet to return a kick for a TD or break a run longer than 40 yards because two or three players ALWAYS have an angle on me and 99% of the time, at least one of them has a speed of 75 or lower.

3. Zone blocking plays work about 10% of the time. The other 90, the play is blown up in the backfield by a DT/DE. They should rename these plays RB Loss Right and HB Loss Left.

4. Does anyone on EA's staff understand that in order for a play with a lead blocker to work, there MUST be a block down on that players man? It's one of the first rules of offensive line play.

5. I've played a season and a half and no one on my team has been injured yet.

6. It seems like the only players that get suspended are the good ones. I play NC State, McLendon is suspended. I play Marshall, their QB is suspended. I play Texas, four of their top 5 players are suspended. Damn it, I want to play the good players. I want this game to be a challenge. I don't want the other team's best players on the bench, it's boring.

7. Recruits are rated WAY too high. I landed the #1 defensive end and he's an 86 OVR. I landed the #16 MLB and his speed is 88. Someone has mentioned they recruited an athlete, put him at DE, and his rating was 99. People have talked about seeing kids with 4.19 40 times. This is ludicrous.

8. Speaking of ratings, in the second year of my dynasty, there are twenty 99 overall rated players. TWENTY!! This is unacceptable.

9. Same old, same old as far as pre-game/post game stuff. I hate to admit it but it takes away from the game.

10. How many times have I seen a player make a tackle for a loss, then get up and do the same raising his arms to the sky animation? At least 100.

11. What is the deal with tipped balls? Are the NCAA producers big fans of The Matrix or something? Do the rules of gravity and general physics not apply to the football field?

Those are my gripes. I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that immediately come to mind. I love the game... but these 11 things are frustrating.

We're considering putting up a wishlist forum so that you guys can post your ideas for NCAA Football 2006. The game developers do check our forums.

bomber, that's an excellent idea and i hope you guys go through with it.

as far as the playbooks are concerned, they really are horrible. i can't find anything near what system i use to run last year. the run n gun pb is pretty nice, but it's rather bland

ea doesn't like to have injuries be "realistic" because they believe it takes away from the fun of the game. i say bull. if it happens in real life, it should happen in the game

i would rather them take out the mascot games and the college classics and have them work on gameplay and presentation.

I definitely agree with #2,6,7,8, and 11. I don't even let myself recruit 5 star players, because it just makes the game toooooo easy once they become Sophomores.

I simmed my first game last night and now my starting RT is out three weeks, my starting SS (91 OVR) is out 9 weeks, and my starting RB is out 5 weeks. Add to that the fact that one of my linebackers is serving a five game suspension (he pulled a Peter Warrick at a department store) and I'm hurting. Especially when you consider I'm redshirting 13 players. I might end up having to play a few freshmen.

Buckeyes,

Is your linebacker an All-American? If so, then if you suspend him, it's not really a Peter Warrick situation, is it?

I had a similar situation. My starting QB, top OL, and top CB all committed infractions Week 1. I'm hoping if you crack down hard early, you can avoid stars acting up later in the season.

I also agree with you on many of your points. #1, in my opinion, being the most important. If you look at the plays, there are really only a handful. Many of the Shotgun and Ace plays are the same, just with the QB moved back! I know someone, maybe you, mentioned that there are 6-7 completely useless plays in every formation if you don't run the option. It was like the developers thought to themselves, "Nah, they only need like 8 plays. Let's work on more slow-loading fan animations!"

Actually it's my 91 OVR third string MLB (John Kerr). He doesn't play anyway so I gave him the 5 game boot to lower my NCAA interest. :)

I agree totally about getting rid of the useless stuff in the game. I don't need the mascot game. Classic teams are nice, but I could live without it.

Without those space and time wasting parts of the program, they could put more into the game we all play 99% of the time.

I would have liked to see an "actual" training camp mode like in Madden(for dynasty mode). You could pick the players you want to develop in a real skills test.

Maybe that "tip drill" part of gameplay could have been eliminated! Batting a pass down(or up in this game) is a scary thing. It looks like my guys are out there playing volleyball!!

I can't believe the lack of off-tackle plays...

I wish I could play a game on five min quarters without watching the between play junk and finish quicker...

I would have to say that custom playbooks are pretty useless if they can't be used online...

There several additions I would like to see in the future but I'll save that for another thread.
