Any of you fans of the Power T or the Wishbone tight formations? If so do you have some insight on how to use them effectivly?

I am a HUGE fan of the power running game and college formations but so far this year I am having less luck running out of these 2 formations than I had hoped, and passing is even a bit more dissapointing.

Any help would be appreciated.

I use South Carolinas play book and it has those two formations as well as several shotgun spread formations. I just started using this playbook yesterday so I haven't perfected them yet. Against the CPU I can dominate Online its different. Those power sets are great if you can audible to keep the defense guessing, but they are by far the most effective way I have found to move the ball on the ground.

Well we have something in common then ;) I too use that playbook and am loving it. The shotgun Formtions are awesome and the I and Weak formations I have a hold of. I am taking the Power T and Wishbone to the lab hard and am still just unable to develop the type of running/option/passing I thought I would get out of it... things seem to get very clogged up on me.

both formations are ALOT LESS effective than they were last year. i used South Carolina's PB last year and have since switched this year. the way the D plays against those formations is different than last year, the DTs and DEs make those formations not all that good. i'm disappointed in it too, i was looking forward to the option.

best advice i could give would be to work on the inside run and option plays out of passing formations this year. i've been getting the option and inside run alot better when i can get the D thinking pass. if you run the T or wishbone there is no way to make the D think pass and you get killed.

I agree with StickSkillz. I used South Carolina's PB last year and I LOVED the Wishbone with both my HBs, but after playing 2 games and not really having much success running with it, I switched to Run and Gun or Wisconsin's PB. I'm using a more open style now to take advantage of LSU's speed. I LOVE the double option of out of the SG 2RB formation. It gives me 3 WR with both my HB next to the QB. After I hit a few digs/crossing patterns, I then look for a deep-streak. Next, when they back-off to defend deep or play zone, u can hit the double-option. I usually hand off to the RB on my right and he can option-pitch it to the OTHER running back if his lane is cut off. Another great play is the PA Read. The hand-off gets good yardage if the LBs don't come up fast.

I've been running the option from the Ace and Shotgun sets. The defense generally isn't expecting option when they see those types of formations. Has anyone had any success with the flexbone offense? I've been trying it out in practice and so far I've gotten some good results with it.

that is true about people playing the run making it hard to move the ball out of these formations, but here is a play I like out of the power T.

since most people will go to an all out blitz, the speed option that sends the outside running back straight out for the pitch, and the full back and other back the opposite way kills this type of scheme. I played OU last night and I would run up the middle against the 4-3, then he goes to 4-4 and 4-25 so I call up this play, the key is yoiu have to get the pitch off before the insede backer coming through the gap hits you. when I did this on back to back plays i picked up 30 yards total. the next play I ran the same formation and hit the HB on the wheel rout for about 15. once you get them worried about a pass, and putting people to cover then the inside game will open up. and if they keep blitzing then I will keep pitching it out to the perimeter for huge chunks of yardage.

since I started using these two formations ONLINE I have actually been able to get a solid running game going. I am still in the learning stages for these two formations, but so far they have been more consistant in moving the ball for me, than any other.

I am really enjoyed the shotgun 2B this year also. I would have to say I am enjoying running out of the one back sets, and the shotgun 2B

I am having a bit more luck in games with the wishbone than in practice for some reason... The T I'm still working on.

As far as the option from shotgun, it is sweet.

bomber,
I just got done with my 2nd season with nebraska going untouched. I ran some of the flexbone normal and had great success with the triple option plays and the all-go play for great gains. To have decent success with flexbone you have to have a strong line and a decent fb with some speed. With that I put david horne at fb and had some decent gains on the triple option and fb dives plays. I just got done recuiting got some decent frosh wr's and installing flexbone normal, ace spread, shotgun spread and shotgun 5 wide. hopefully I can install a passing game with my power option ground attack.

Thanks,
John

Are you guys using any special set-up for the plays? Or keying on a defender to help you judge the hole/option?

I've been wondering about the flexbone formations especially since EA Tiborun has finally adjusted the fullback's alignment. I'm going to try it out in a game vs the cpu. So far I've used it with good results in practice.
