Ive played someone tonight that was Missouri and just got creamed by Brad Smith. He used the HB option pass quiet a few times also to throw me off. I was using my Seminoles but just couldnt contain him. Are there any plays in last years filmroom that can help me?

4-2-5 & 3-3-5 - outside safeties blitz, not certain on the name...very effective at stopin' the option and provideing solid coverage down field.

I just try to stay in zones. Seems man defense gets burned easily. Usually until they show they can beat it, if it's just a regular set like I-Form or Strong Pro or Ace, etc then I call Cover 2 Spy spread the linebackers one way and then the d-line the other way. If they manage to gain decent yards with that I may try 4-4 or 4-2-5 with people blitzing the outside.

My friend plays with Missouri and runs an offense very similiar to that. I've been keeping the 3-3-5 and 4-2-5 SS Spy defenses as audibles. He likes to call pass plays and if no one is open he'll take off down field. I also use quite a bit of zone blitz against him. I want to put some pressure on, but without having to play straight man coverage. The best thing to do against these types of offenses is to be patient. It can be very frustrating when a pass play is called and suddenly the quarterback is on the loose in the secondary. I don't want to give up the big play. Basically make him continue to execute and clamp down on him inside the redzone.

I got very frustrated last night. I tried to mix it up with 4-2-5 SS Spy you mention with some zones, but he kept eating me up. Basically I just gave up. I even missed a 19 yd fg because I was so frustrated. :)

Spread your line backers and always blitz someone unless your MLB is fast enough to stop the Qb from getting the edge. If he is fast enough, just spy the qb and roll with him to what ever side he rolls to. I have found that OU, Texas, USC, LSU all have linebackers and defensive ends to contain most scrambling Qb's
If he is clever, and calls a HB angle pass play and rolls away so that you leave the middle wide open for the pass to come through, start keying off the HB. if he comes out, follow him until he gets to the rest of your secondary,. but do not pull your MLB completely out of position so he can't stop the qb from getting the edge.
last year I quickly learned against the Qb from Penn St, the Qb from Texas, the QB from KState, Vtech.. you have to blitz against guys who use this tactic.
you know what the best part is? After you get your 6th sack of the first half and you are leading 21-0, they will quit or glitch.. because they don't have any other tactics...
anyways, I hate to say it, but I tend to find the scrambling Qb thing kind of cheesy. So my big counter is a small bit of cheese.. I blitz a inside corner from both sides, calling a DIME defense every play if he is in a spread formation while using these tactics. he can't throw deep if you get to him fast enough, and he can't run wide because the corners will get him. Do not spread your lineman, because you will become vulnerable to the inside draw. If he is a juking, zig, zagging fool, DO not dive for a tackle and lay off the sprint buttun when you are close to him. Use your position instead to force him into your AI controlled players. Most of the zig zag players depend on you holding the sprint buttun and over pursuing, or switching and diving, continually missing.

Their are some good zone plays that might stop the athletic QB , but I have not tryed them out. One out of Dime with both corners blitzing, the 3-4 has one with a linebacker and corner blitzing from one side ( these plays would also be good at stopping the spread option). Maybe Bomber could elaborate more on these plays to stop the athletic QB. I have not played someone doing it yet this year, last year I came across it a few times.

You can also gameplan for this type of play, most likely someone will use this because they try and get a cheap win.

4-2-5 Outside Safety Blitz (or whatever it's called when the the 2 safeties up close blitz) if you want control the 1 on the weak side of the field since people usually don't run the option to that side of the field.

U anyone remembers the THE PUPIL played Tech last year and Vick was a monster. Heres how I beat him.
1. Subbed my DE's for LB's
2. Ran the 3-3-5, with zone blitz's.
3. I AB'd him from the opposite side I was blitzing.
4. Ran all Cover 2 and Cover 3 Zone Blitzs.
Remember for all those who say this is cheese, he didnt mind anything I did cause he said I would never beat him again, period. He told me to bring it all.

Thanks for the tips guys. This will help me game plan for this type of playing style. I need to hit the lab hard. I really dont know how fast the middle LB for FSU is. Another question, do all teams have the same defensive plays?
