Can anyone explain what is jet packing, and how to do it even though its considered cheese?

Cheese is a subjective description. I'm only here to provide you with the info you requested, what you do with it has nothing to do with me.

Jet packing is basically throwing a deep ball and manually have the receiver jump for it. Of course there's more to it but thats basically it. Usually used when the receiver is in front of the safety. If he didn't jump for it, the safety is gonna knock it down. It's a Madden term. I guess it comes from the fact that you stop short of the ball's landing spot, take a step or two foward and jump. The animation kinda resembles someone firing a jet pack on his back and flying up to the ball. It's somewhat a guarenteed catch unless you use a "big hit." Thats where the cheese comes in. It's almost guarenteed a first down or touchdown. Either way, it's a catch for some huge yardage.

I'm guessing the jetpacking technique works only on lobbed throws? What if the receiver is either led deep or to either side? Does it still work?

sure. Actually as long as the receiver is deep you can still jet pack even if the QB doesn't lob it as long as ur open and fast enough with the controls.

If you lead the receiver deep and the defender is behind him you can still do it but its pretty pointless if you got him beat already.
