I went from PS2 to PS3 this year for NCAA. Now on the older gen you could tell if someone was in man coverage without having to use motion. Is there a way to tell without motioning on the NG? Just got the 09 version and am having a little bit of a tough time passing cause my reads are taking so much longer due to not being able to tell at the line of scrimmage if its man or zone. I feel like a newbie all over again. :( I have pretty much figured out the run game but definitely not the passing game. Any help would be appreciative with sharing some tips to improve my passing attack. You can just PM me if its easier. Thanks.

You shouldn't need to know if it is man or zone before the snap. This actually nice since you wouldn't get that read if you walked to the line in a real game. Most if not all of the plays have routes that beat both. Make a quick read and then throw the correct route.
Call plays from formations like Ace Big twin WR. That should tell you what they are running. Call several formations with twin WR's and you will then get an idea of what they are running.
BTW... it is lame to motion a WR just to see if it is man or zone.

I agree. For some reason to me the passing game just is totally different when I switched systems. Oh well just like anything I will learn in time. It sucks cause some of my old "money" plays are not in the NG playbooks.

watch the safeties, if one comes up, they are in a cover 3 most of the time. if two safeties are deep it's cover 2 or 2 man. if one goes back on break, immediately it's some form of cover 1 man. i put a man in motion all the time at beginning of game until i see what my opponent tends to do. you will be surprised most people run zone all game. it should take you a drive to figure it out if they run zone or man.

Why would you be surprised? Man defense is useless on this game. I laugh whenever I see someone running man because I know the game is over.

you're correct, however, i tend to use man against the run, or when i think a run is coming. I find man to be better at stopping runs up the middle. Even if my opponent comes out on short yardage, in shotgun, i will run man in case he runs. How do you feel about this?

That is the only time I run man as well and blitz like hell.
What really pisses me off are these people that go quarters defense all game with Ohio State. This is the only team I can't dominate on the ground when they go quarters. Every other team I am knocking off 5-10 yards a carry against it. For some reason OSU has DB's that the OL can't knock down. It is gay.

So therefore sometimes i'll call a man beater play, put my wr in motion to see if its man, if its man, ill run the play, if it's zone ill audible to a run. So knowing if its man or zone is important to me.

It still isn't all that important. You can still run the ball against man blitzes. I will pm you and tell you how.
