I belong to NCAA film room and I was wondering when and if film room will do a D to help stop the long lob passes in this game. I like the game except for this and the dropped passes. Thanks and keep up the great work here at VG.
BTW: Is there going to be a playbook or a film room for ESPN. I just picked that game up this week. :)

We've been working on a good strategy to use against the lob passes. We're working on the defensive side of the virtual playbook this week, so we'll have more of an opportunity to look for schemes to deal with it.
As for ESPN there will be a virtual playbook for it and we're discussing the possibility of doing a film room for it.

Bomber, PLEASE do a filmroom on for defense stopping the long ball. I played 3 game this weekend and everyone had no offense but the long bomb.

I can't wait to see this defense, we need it badly, i played one game online and got destroyed by the longball, that was all the guy did, he burn't cover 4. Hey Bomber when is the official release date for V. Playbook, and will it be similar to last years, or will their be changes?

I played 3 game online this weekend and everyone just long balled the whole game. One guy threw 12 long balls in a row. This is getting so stupid.

I'm working on it. I just played a guy online to test out some new ideas I had. Basically the scramble with the mobile quarterbacks makes it tough to sit in cover 2 man. I just played a game using Duke and of course my opponent was playing with FSU. I was able to knock down the majority of his deep balls by using the L trigger on the XBOX. I was also playing straight man coverage and I controlled the free safety.
At one point he was 1-12 passing with 7 yards. He finally caught one long bomb because when I swatted the ball, it took a strange bounce off my db's shoulder pad and landed right into his receiver's hand for a td. That was very annoying . He won 10-7. Playing with Duke it was tough moving the ball against his defense. The slowdown on XBOX Live makes it difficult at times to run the ball. He did have a nice game plan against my spread offense. He played Dime and Nickel Max 2 almost exclusively in passing situations. He also would manually drop one of his defensive tackles into coverage. This basically took away every possible intermediate throw. Everything had to be either short or take a chance deep over the top.
Even though the game ended on that sour note, I'm feeling better about defending the pass with one on one coverage. I think the skill level of my players plays into it. I refuse to play with any of the highly rated teams online. Where's the challenge in that? The best team I've played with from a ratings standpoint is Fresno State, Cal, and Southern Miss. I plan on playing with a 1AA team Alcorn State later. Before you laugh I checked the rosters of the 1aa teams and I noticed that Alcorn State has two of the fastest receivers in the entire game. Their top two receivers are 95 and 96 in speed and their third wide out is a 90. I didn't realize Steve McNair's alma matter had that type of talent.

It's due to be released August 1. There will be some changes. We're able to add more strategy than in past versions. I spent my two week vacation so that I could really focus on adding some good content . :) This week we'll be focusing on strictly the defensive side of the ball. The offensive strategies and the other areas of the book are pretty much done.

That is very impressive Bomber, If that were me playing Duke against FSU, I would have gotten smacked. Thanks for the info on V-Playbook, I am looking forward to August 1.

First thing to do is to look at the speed of ur secondary  . Watch the match ups... I was plying Ohio State, and they have some ver quick corner backs. One has a speed of 98... Put a serious lockdown on my receiver...
 Second thing is a defense in the 4-2-5 called double the outs. It was beautiful against me.... But once again u have to watch the speed of ur defensive backs.
One more thing. DON'T CALL BUMP AND RUN.... :D U will b chasing the wrs all day.... I love bump and run.... once he gets pass the jam he is on his way...
Hopes this helps everyone out...
One more thing. DON'T GO FOR THE INT. Go for the BIG HIT.... ;)

Zone blitz and I manually blitzed with one of the blitzers. I didn't want him to get comfortable in the pocket. Usually when they lob it up there it allows for enough time for you to switch to the defender who's playing the receiver and swat the ball away. Also when the quarterback starts to feel comfortable in the pocket, chances are he'll be able to at least throw an accurate pass down the field. If he's going to throw the deep ball, I want him to do so while getting some pressure in his face.
A play that I used alot was 3-3-5 Crash 3. I controlled the blitzing strong safety and manually blitzed him while using the speed burst. I didn't AB blitz. On XBOX Live I play with the Classic view. Basically my strong safety is aligned to the left as you look at the screen. I like to "hide" him by moving him slightly farther to the left and out of the line of sight of my opponent. My thinking is usually when I see a guy manually bring a linebacker or defensive back close the LOS, he's probably going to blitz with that guy. So I'm conscious of the blitz. By moving him out of his line of sight, he got a false sense of security in the pocket.

Good thinking Bomber, I will have to try that online and see how it works for me. I think this post and many others is what seperate this forums from the rest, people helping people giving away some of there strategies and tactics.

dont play cover 4 against the deep ball. the 2 safeties play the middle and dont help on the outside, so ur left wit 1 on 1 coverage.

I learned that lesson the hard way, this is very insightful thread on stopping the deep ball.
