I've lost 2 in a row to Texas using the Canes because the cpu is too retarded to chase the QB when he picks Hail mary and then just takes off running to the left... using Direct Snap to the HB to the right then calls a option and runs the opposite way the play is designed to go and my safties and corner act like morons and either drop back or stand there and get juked outta their shoes... thanks for any suggestions... some specific plays that you'll have used successfully would be great. I try to run the 3-4 most the game.

I'd suggest using any play that brings someone off the edge on both sides of the formation. Also, you may want to check out the 3-3-5 SS Double Spy. It leaves your secondary in man coverage but it does provide some protection against mobile quarterbacks.

I have had this problem as well... now mind me, I don't have all the defensive plays memorized in my head so i can't give specific plays.... but I can describe a decent sceme... I used to be scared when I played texas... but now I just laugh... Good running qb... half way decent arm... ok recievers... get a team that has fast linebackers... I suggest FSU... LSU is okay... I've had good luck with the Canes as well... now... what I suggest is containment... I use a series of 3-0 stack Zone blitzes mixed with cover 2 man and 4-3 zone blitzes having the outside line backers come from around the tight ends to contain... give him the qb sneak up the middle, the d-line will react quick enough.. and he won't get all that much... but the key is PRESSURE... make him throw the long ball to your dbacks waiting to eat up his recievers with BIG HITS! dont' go for interceptions unless you FOR SURE have the pick... just come at them and try and time the hit when the ball arrives... it will piss them off... sometimes his qb will get around your linebackers... but if you get him running south... he's screwed... Sorry that I don't have exact plays... for you right now... but I'll go get them and post tomorrow... with better explanations... if you get the chance... check out some of the zone blitzing discussions here in the forums... the will help a lot... also NEVER go man to man... he'll see it and bomb it on you and you'll be pissed... just work on putting pressure from the outside... and not giving him good looks at his LONG ball recievers... I'll have a rundown of plays for you in the morning...

More to come.

P.S. vikes just got dontarious Thomas and the BIG K.U. all signed and ready to rock... Man this will be an exciting year for football fans!

look through the forum for stuff on the 3-0 stack... its hard to beat! =)

I use a silmilar approach except I usually go for the swat ball if he gets the pass off. I recently played Virginia Tech and I knew what was coming as soon as he picked them (Vick). Needless to say I never let him get comfortable and ended up shutting him out and in the process getting 9 sacks.

Bomber, does the swat ball work better for you than the big hit. Anymore with the longball I just use the Big hit, more often than not I will big hit the receiver before the ball gets to him and take a penalty if need be. The user pick doesn't work as well from last year, if the swat works that well I will have to go into the lab and practice.

I have lost many a games bcause of the User swat (I meant Pick). I am in perfect position, and instead of picking off the pass, they swat it down. EA Bring back 04.... Stop PLAYING!!!!!

I use a combination of the swat ball with the occassional big hit. I usually go with swat ball because it's safer and in most cases the db will at least get a hand on it.

first.... on a side note... I too really loved the swat... until I got beat by it time and time again... with the bombs going so incredibly long... and the db not being able to get a hand on it... it pissed me off.. so i started to hit the reciever on impact of the ball reaching the reciever... it works for me... so I am sticking with it... I don't use big hit... I just dive and take their legs out! =) ...

now ... before I give specific plays... I must say... GET THE FILMROOM! It has changed my game completely around... I will not give specifics... cuz my man's gotta make his $ ... and its WELL WORTH IT!.... but here are some pointers!

again get some fast lb...

3-4 cover 3

Bump and run coverage to bring guys up for run and to force the qb to see your db close and discourage run... pinch the line plugs up holes for runs... Shift over the lb to the blitzing side. move mlb to the right side shoulder of the de.... manualy blitz the outside lb for pressure... this causes the tackle to chose between de and the two lb that are lined up... bringing presure if your quick....

3-4 crash 2

same idea... MORE presure with both the rmlb and olb blitzing do the same as above... now some would say that these two plays bring pressure only from one side so the qb will go the other way... it does happen but the speed of the lb will and should make up for this.... what your trying to do is force him to make a decision, run or pass... and hopefully he passes cuz you'll shut em down if he don't know how to beat the zone blitzes...

my favorite.... for qb runners is 3-4 spy 3

again same tactics as those above... shift and move the same... it brings pressure and has the spying mlb, =) great for when the the qb is running... only this time... bring pressure from the outside lb that's blitzing... and shift the lmlb (the spy) slightly outside the left de a step or two further back than the rest of the lb... this way if the qb goes that way... the spy has a clear run right at him.... the blitz on the other side will discourage the run to the right if you do it correctly.

4-3 fire 2

use this when he is running the i forms and some of the ace formations... watch out for the passes over the middle sides... this brings GREAT pressure... bump and run, spread the lbs... and blitz one outside while the other blitzes... intense heat around the outsides... forces him to make a decision... great play...

4-3 cover 2 man

good for protection... good for run... bump and run, bringing cb's up to line... to discourage EARLY qb run... and shift d line to spread and spread the lb as well... rush with a de around the outside... and make him pass! can we say BIG HIT or PICK!

* again remember, give him the middle qb sneak if he wants it... your line will make up for it in the long haul.

4-2-5 Dogs Zone

THIS one rocks!!!!! it has tons of elements... great blitzing schemes... and the de's drop into a zone... and EAT up the qb if he runs... but for as how to execute this one... GET THE FILMROOM!!!! again its completely worth it....

I hope this helps.... make sure you make his recievers pay when they catch the ball... Hit him hard... and by half time... he'll be pissed and quit... Never give up... Stick to your defensive plan... and you'll see that most people don't know how to adjust... and you'll just cream them! if they adjust.... start by mixing in better coverages... and blitz packages.... if you notice that he stops running and bombing more... DO NOT GO MAN TO MAN!!!!! he'll cream you!!!!

Hope this helps... Good luck and have fun... :)

WOW... Thanks for the tips Ashyr... sry took so long to reply... But I am going to check those out... at first online the deep ball was just pissin me off... then the QB scrambler ... but I think i got my D down to being pretty good. I controll the left side corner and most the time people are afraid to challenge my coverage on the deep routes... and yes after about 20 Tips that they end up with off of my guy I too now just hammer the reciever before or after the catch don't really care... 15 is better than 50 so I will pass interfer all day long... thanks again.

Ash gave u all the plays to run, but many of them need to be enhanced which can make the plays more effective, but those are in the filmroom.

I have been using big hit , and now I am using the swat, it works pretty well. I only use user pick when the ball is being tipped around or if my db's are in perfect position.

Wow.............. great tips Ashyr. :D

I played a rare game online yesterday, and came across another "bomber". His whole offense consisted of 99% deep ball and 1% run. He quickly ran up 13-0 on me ( missed an EP ) and I was pissed, so pissed that I abandoned my gameplan and went for it on 4th down early in the game and in my own territory. It's a no-no, I know. Well he pauses the game and asks me how old I am, I send no reply because I'm pretty sure my answer would've been followed by " You sure do suck for your age. LOL ". Well I decided that if I was going to get back in the game that I needed to force myself to be patient and disciplined. I called more zone plays, called man-to-man coverages with both safties providing deep help, and utilized the quick audible feature as well. On offense I practically willed myself into getting a short passing game, and made an effort to run and pass from the same formations. All of this paid off as I was able to stop him offensively and march my offense down the field to score 14 unanswered points, with both drives consisting of 10 or more plays. He comes out again and starts lobbing the deep ball and I make him pay by flattening his wide outs and managing to get a user pick in the process. I again march down the field and score, making it 21 unanswered points. He pauses the game and then quits, leaving me to finish out against the cpu.

You've got to mix things up on defense or they'll get you with the deep ball and or the running QB. As for the swat vs. user pick, that's a tough one for me to call. I really only try and go for the user pick if the QB over throws his WR by a lot. Other than that, I'll go for the tackle right before or after he makes the catch.

Glad that you guys liked the tips... and like Nole said.... they are the plays... and good ones... but I didn't give away the secrets... (I hope) yes...as nole said, there are things that you can do to enhance the plays, however... I'm a big... BIG fan of the filmroom... and would rather point people to that because it is one of the best teachers... However... if anyone ever wants to share things online... I could use some learning too... or if you want to see how I run some of my defensive schemes... I would be more than glad to meet you on xbox live and play a bit... and that goes for anyone who is looking to chat and learn more about the great game of football... again... I DON"T KNOW MUCH... but I'm willing to share what I do know... and really want to learn more so that we can all get better

Cheers!
