How long have there been female refs in the NBA? And does any other male sport have lady refs?

Good question. I don't think there are any in NHL, and definitely none in the NFL. I don't remember seeing any in MLB.

My guess it has something to do with the NBA being the only sport that has a professional womens team?

I believe there have been women refs since Barkley was playing because I vaguely remember it being a big deal about how he would react to a woman calling a foul on him. There aren't any pro women umps but the minors are always doing something gimmicky so who knows there.

Anyway, I think it's just another example of women ruining the sactity of something that belongs to men. Just like Jeanie Zilasko last night on the field, handling the post game crap for the WS.

Ah yes.. the woman ref. Even on the level I officiate on alot.. (not all) but alot of them have this chip on thier shoulder. Just ref the games... thats all I ask. You got nothing to prove ya know.

yah ive seen women refs in basketball for quite a few years ... and im sure it has something to do with there are alot of women who are very good bball players and who play professionaly.. probally not ever gonna see a women in the nfl reffing unless theres a wnfl someday

There are women refs in sports that women play also. You don't see them in football because women don't know football. Hoops, volleyball, tennis, etc, there are women refs.

I see women refs in basketball, but what I don't understand is why are they ugly? There have to be some attractive women who officiate. Get one of them, put her in a tight outfit and watch the ratings go UP

i had a female ref at my last travel hockey game...she sucked really bad and i ended up checking her on purpose because she gave me two penalties
