Interesting to see Obama with a big early lead in Florida... but it's early.

Yeah, Cali is 55 votes, TX 34. Its probably safe to say that McCain will get my state (TX) and Obama would carry California. I believe the Obama will snag Florida too who has 27 votes I believe.

Through all the bashes of Obama nobody ever ever said how smart he was to get money for his campaign, using the net and pushing the early votes, using a strategy of going after 1 state (Virginia) and using that as a spring board for other states.
Give the young fellow his props. Will he get taken in by the Washington normal garbage? I hope not, because it's nice to see him think out of the box whether or not its right or wrong.
Lastly they said McCain would be winning if a terrorist threat or something like that happened before the election.
Listen not only are we a free country, we are also one of the most violent nations in the world. We terrorize ourselves and then want to paint Muslims or some radical group of terror. Don't we have murders every single day? In this country we kill off way more that Osama ever did on our own soil.
Let me stop before the Mccain supporters say we don't terrorize our own people.

When Dr. King made the "I Have A Dream" speech.
When man walked on the moon.
When JFK was assassinated.
When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
When the Berlin wall came down.
When Hank Aaron hit 715.

While that may be true, any candidate would just have to campaign in California, Texas, New York, and Florida. Those 4 states would decide the winner every time. Why bother stepping foot in Wyoming, or Montana if there is really nothing to gain from it.
The Electoral College is also suppose to prevent the public from electing morons to the Presidency, since they are not required to vote for the candidate their state prefers. Obviously they failed in 04. :P

agreed, it takes about 5 years for major change to occur. And you know the next vote will be extremely difficult

1. Get rid of the lobbyists
2. Healthcare
3. The economy
Let's get to work.

Yay system that makes the votes of people in certain geographic locations worthless.
Apparently, tonight, the vote of a person in Sandusky, OH is worth more than a vote from nearly everywhere else.
BK,
With all due respect I think you may be missing the broader view of this issue. I understand your frustrations with the voting system that we have in place. IMO, there are many, many flaws with it. However, that's the small picture. The big picture is that we even have a voting system at all.
So while it is flawed, yes. We all need to be thankful for the fact that we at least have it. Many people gave their lives for us to be able to have it. Possibly even someone along your family tree.
There are many other inhabitants of other countries out there that would LOVE to have one insignificant vote that is worth less than their peers in Sandusky, OH.
"You better eat that, there's starving children in Africa..."
While we are allowed to voice our displeasure with the system, we need to be thankful for the fact that we're allowed to have a voice in the first place.

How does Bush compare to Obama? I don't recall Bush making tons of promises like Obama. Bush had 9/11, and the War on Terror, that really set the tone for his Presidency. If not for the war on Terror, we wouldn't be borrowing all the money that we've been borrowing. Bush has made mistakes, for sure. I think, however, that much of the hatred sent his way is irrational, and undeserved.
Anyway, the REASON that I will ride Obama, is because he made incredible promises, and he now pretty much has nothing in the Congress to stand in his way. If he can't do what he wants to do when he takes office, there are NO excuses. There won't be any blaming Republicans (like they did with the housing crisis). When the policies that get passed fail miserably, there will be no one to blame, but Obama and the Democrats.

I think you're missing the idea when it comes to change.
I think its more of a mentality of being a U.S. Citizen and dealing with our current administration more than anything else. This election has a completely different feel to it man. Nothing like I have ever witnessed or been a part of. Just watching Chicago last night made me proud - not only as an African-American, but as a young, U.S. voter and citizen. Whoever the next President would've been wouldn't be able to immediately change our financial crisis. It took 8 years for us to get in this hell. It'll take years before we're able to get out.
The results of the election were pretty symbolic of what people are excited about when it comes to change.
The young black guy defeats the old white war hero? That's unhearalded. It seems like something from a tv show or a sappy Disney movie. That's change. Yes, Obama got the black vote, but what democrat doesn't get the black vote? Obama, got votes from different races, creeds, genders, and ages. That's change. It took all kinds of people coming together instead of the us vs them mentality.
In retrospect, I think McCain was fighting an uphill battle and walking with an elephant on his back.
* 90% voting with Bush
* current economic crisis
* Bush's last 8 years
* Palin's ineptitude
Whoever was his campaign manager should be excommunicated to Jupiter; where Obama won 57% of the vote. :p
Maybe this election will be a building block for future elections. One can only hope.
60 years from now when 2 women are running for President I can look back and say, "I remember when this would never have been thought possible."
Obama to me represents change in government ideals. Hopefully, that will be the case. I think people understand that it won't be overnight. But I think people understand that this is something that needed to happen for our country to be united and go forward as a people.
People know what George Bush has accomplished. People know what Republicans have accomplished. America spoke on Nov 4th and said they wanted.....change.

Bush like all past presidents on the campaign trail made tons of promises that were not kept. Granted Bush had 9/11 but his so called war on terror in Iraq can and will be argued through out history as a failed endeavor by most Americans. Contrary to the rights belief his legacy will suffer for it.

I think that yesterday a majority of Americans agreed more with what O'bama didn't stand for as opposed to what he did stand for.... The exit polls and voter breakdowns would be consistent with that.... his platform basically was "i am not mccain/bush" and he also tried to say that he related to the American people... He didnt really have much that he "stood" for other then "not what they stand for"
i wish more people did vote in who they believe in and not feel the pressure of having someone tell them that they wasted their vote... thats why i was excited to see so many young people voting. hopefully that trend continues. once that demographic gets large enough, candidates will have to emerge with ideas and values that mirror those of young Americans.

Anyway, remember what I told you.
Christ says, that "the wide road leads to destruction". Obama and the left leaning congress are going to push this country in directions that challenge God's authority. Man will destroy himself by pushing God's boundaries. Obama and his satan friends will go WAY past God's law. If you think God will let it go unpunished you are fooling yourselves. Truth.
You can have you overly emotional cry parties, but the reality is this-- you did nothing more than put a satanic man in the White House.
Freedom of Choice act will likely start it alll.

The US is not the world. Hell alot of the "satanic" things you speak of has been going on widespread throughout world history. So since its going to supposedly happen in American now........the anti-christ is upon us? Man please!

Exactly, and that's the kind of change I see this as-- An overall change in the way politicians see the American people. That we're not all the same person and they can't campaign that way.

unfortunately, imo thats a LONG way off. look no further than the conversations on this forum for evidence that the majority of people in this country do not seem to have the ability respect another's opinion. unless of course they agree on the subject. and that's all politics is, opinions. there is no right/wrong answer. yesterday the majority of americans agreed with what obama SEEMS to stand for. over the next four years we will see if we were right. if not, we will vote for someone else who SEEMS to stand for what we believe in. we have all been on the other end of this situation, where the person elected doesn't SEEM to agree with what we believe in. the beauty of democracy imho.
The majority of the electoral votes were. Obama was 52% majority with McCain 46% in the public eyes. Thats not that much of a difference!! The electoral votes make it look like a landslide! The american people were a bit closer on the issue.

I was on Auburn Ave, down the street from the King Memorial, to see all those people in the streets rejoicing was moving. No drama, no nothing, people praying the streets thanking God this day had come. As a minority, it may mean more to me than someone else. For my grandparents who endured slavery and couldnt vote, they couldnt feel any better. Its a lot to take in when you have that type of history.

It's emotional because of the strides black people have made in such a very short time in spite of the unlevel playing field. Also from the perspective of older blacks such as myself that witnessed first hand how repressive the culture was to blacks, it was never even a consideration to have a black as President. So forgive some of us if our emotion befuddles you and if you can't understand that then I can only give you the "Harlem AL quote". :p

I agree somewhat, the American People have made good strides. I just think its a little over-the-top and kind of corny that someone by listening to the radio a day after it happened had to almost pull the car off the road when for weeks most knew he was going to win. To each his own I guess. Maybe you can be half as happy as he is half-black...:p

People talk about racial equality... and then celebrate racial advancement. You cant have it both ways. Its hypocritical. IMO.
If we are to be once race.. the human race then this shouldn't be an issue. This shows how FAR away we are from racial equality IMO.
I see and hear people.. "we won.. we won..."

I agree with some of what you said, but the fact of the matter is that this is a MAJOR step in achieving the "ideal" equality that, we as American will probably won't reach, for numerous and obvious reasons. I would be the 1st to slap Obama supporters that parade around acting like blacks get a free pass just because he have a black President. If anything, we need to start changing our culture (sagging pants, slurred speech) to reflect the stride that we made today. We need to start living up to the expectations that have now been put into action.

* 90% voting with Bush
* current economic crisis
* Bush's last 8 years
* Palin's ineptitude
I'm JoeJGibbs and I approve this message.
Ugh, if I hear another person say "it took us 8 years to get in this mess" I think i am gonna throw up. You all act as if from the second George Bush was elected, the stock market began to plummet and the country went down the sh*tter. sigh
The reality is that we have a DEMOCRATIC Congress, and anyone who claims that people like Barney Frank and Chris Dodd don't share in the responsibility for what is going on in our economy is flat out ignorant.
Look at what is at the root of the mortgage crisis.....it isn't republican thinking.....I can tell you that. George Bush isn't of the party that wants to redistribute the wealth and endow people who can't afford homes with a mortgage they can't afford, it is the entitlement policies that were bullied into place by people like Barney Frank. But god forbid we say anything except "Bush sucks blah blah blah".
I understand why people are angry with Bush on issues like Katrina, the war, etc. But to be so ignorant as to claim the economic crisis should fall on his shoulders without any blame on the democrats in Congress in ridiculous.
But hey, you guys will know what it is like when 4 years from now everyone is doing the same thing to Obama.(except Obama won't have the excuse of an unfriendly legislative branch.

African Americans are only 11% of the electorate so if every vote went to Obama he would not have won. 40% of the electorate non-black went in obam's corner. So America is changing for the better. So, let me ask a question...as a conservative, how am I supposed to "support" Obama and his policies? I mean, I don't hope that he fails. However, I cannot, and will not, support his ideas of wealth redistribution. I cannot, and will not, support his ideas on universal healthcare. I cannot, and will not, support his ideas on cutting the military.
Do I hope that he fails? If that means that I hope that he's not able to do some of the things he wants, then yes. I'm sorry, I don't subscribe to the same ideals as him, therefore, I cannot support those ideals.
On a side note, I think that it's a problem when people are excited that a black man won instead of a white man. People aren't excited because of what he stands for...they're not excited because of what he will do...they're excited, first and foremost, because of his color. People aren't excited because of what he stands for...they're not excited because of what he will do...they're excited, first and foremost, because of his color. I was playing Socom last night, and in the room I was in, you should have heard the ignorant things that they were saying when Obama won. 96% of the black vote went for Obama. Looks like it is alive and well. :rolleyes:
Black people vote Democratic.
If Obama was Timmy O'Toole Wojciehowsky, Democrat from Maryland he'd get the African American vote.
Obama being an African American candidate only caused more African Americans to take part in the election, by registering and voting.

Bottom line is that Obama does more to inspire the people not only in this country but the entire world than McCain would ever have done. This is the road with the most promise. It shows the world that we aren't complete douche bags and gives everyone hope. Cause at this stage in humanity its not just about us anymore.

No but the percentage increased a lot too. I remember it was 80% voted for Kerry back in 2004, and now 96% for Obama. Thats a massive change. I'm not saying theres anything wrong with it, because there was probably a crap load of people that didn't vote for Obama because he was black, so it balances things.

Resnor, I agree you should not support his policies if you don't agree with them. That is every american's right. I didn't support Bush's butt-raping of the military, and thus did not vote for him in 04, and still refused to support his policies.
The problem is when people who disagree with a politician refuse to acknowledge when they were wrong about something they disagreed with.

I do find it ironic that 96% of the black vote went to "change" for Obama -- yet 70% of African Americans voted to take away the rights of so many Californians.
I can't exactly be thrilled about the election overall. :rolleyes:

That isn't true. There is a major difference percentage wise in the historicaly voting record of blacks and that in this election. 96 % is ridiculous.

Uh oh......I hope Milwaukee doesn't see this. He went on a 6 page barrage calling me "racist" for suggeting that blacks vote "anti-gay" in disproportionate amounts then whites.
I guess the proof is in the pudding as they say.:p
I think everyone is really missing the point with the racial angle. People we have to recognize that America is changing and america's view on race is changing.
While as an African American I am proud to see my grandmother smile about the election. I am not only proud to see Obama run such a wonderful election but I am also proud of America itself.
African Americans are only 11% of the electorate so if every vote went to Obama he would not have won. 40% of the electorate non-black went in obam's corner. So America is changing for the better. When I say for the better I am not talkng about whether you are Red or blue but that we are better for putting the racial issue on the back seat.
This post summed it up perfect. Did anyone see the pans of the crowd at McCain's speech? Tons of white people young and old. At Obama's speech their was White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, young, and old. It was a mix of people celebrating. Not just black people or white people. All different types of people celebrating Obama winning.

Well old southern white people voted disproportionately for McCain. And it's hardly fair to label many blacks voting for Obama "racism." You once again demonstrate a clear misunderstanding of what racism IS.

Because there is always going to be ignorant people. Especially in video game land.
For your story of what you heard, I have heard N!gger this Ni99er that while playing Madden about the same issue.
We have no idea who those people are. They can be 8 years old for all we know.
Did those people not vote?
**shrugs shoulders**
We can talk about whatever, but where is the relevance to what some ignorant @sshole says over a microphone from the confines of his safe, warm living room.
I guess what I'm saying is, 'What is the significance of someone being ignorant and supporting Obama?'
If it were fact that only ignorant people supported Obama, I'd have no problem with including these E-jack@sses.

I understand what it is, but due to the ignorance on this board in throwing the term around, I choose to adopt a broader definition in the interest of fairness. If people are voting for a man due solely to the color of his skin, that is racism, plain and simple. The only difference is that the uber-PC liberals in this country have conditioned us to think it is ok for blacks to be racist. Maybe now that black people are "the man" things will change.

Obama didn't win because black people voted for him. He won because everyone voted for him. Hispanics were HIS by 2/3rds, young voters were HIS 2to1, over 1/2 the women were his votes.
So you can choose to focus on how high the African American vote was or choose to focus on how high every demographic was and in his favor.
Someone already mentioned the comparisons between the crowds of the candidates last night. McCain had all one type of person. Obama's had everyone.

Are you serious? If anything, blacks are told on an everyday basis that racism doesn't exist, and that "we are harping on the past". Me and you both know that African Americans are probably more tolerant of whites than the other way around. If you don't agree with that, say hello to Peter Pan and the lost boys in Neverland for me, because you're obviously not present here in America.

Its not like they were voting for Flavor Fl av, this is a super intelligent great speaker who made history. I see no racism in the black community voting for their candidate. had he been white I don't think the % of votes would be much different, I think more black voters voted because he was black. Black voters DO NOT VOTE GOP, and it looks like the Hispanic voting group has started to abandon the GOP as well. Only racists are those who didn't vote for Obama because he was black.

Like i said earlier in this thread, there is work to be done - by everyone - if we wish to move forward with the things tht are truly important right now (2 wars, economy, healthcare, foreign policy, etc).
The "magic" of Obama isn't that he's going to change everything with the swipe of a wand. Those who say that, in an attempt to demean him, are simply butthurt and want to continue the divisiveness of the Bush Agenda. they have no desire to help move this country to a better day. They are already looking to point out failures in policy before he even takes office.
The magic is that there's a new hope within the souls of millions of Americans. The cornerstone of that new hope rests in the belief that the same old politics in DC is going to change. The lobbyists can start packing their bags and Congress along with Obama will begin to work with each other, for the people, not for corporate or party interests.
