Has anyone played with Portis yet?

I got the game yesterday and as a die hard Skins fan I've been waiting for this since Portis signed earlier this year. Then when I saw 97 speed and 99 acceleration and I had to wipe my mouth from the drool. But he runs like a lineman. No burst, no quickness. Even the guy I was playing was surprised that it was Portis. Has anyone else noticed this?

Actually, i've had tremendous success with Clinton Portis thus far. In a total of 4 games (online), he's averaged 117 yards & 5.8 ypc. I get most of my yards off counters, traps and tosses. This year, you really have to let the offensive line dictate your pace.

I agree. I also love the way you can cut back if you have those stick skills. No speed burst or juke needed. Guess it also depends on the agility of your RB. Stick and move!!!

i played a friend on the pc with madden 2005 rosters on madden 2004, he was using the skins and he couldn't run with portis, it was like running with a LB he told me... i run with ahman green that is faster and i have no problems

I play with the Redskins and Portis doesn't seem like he has 97 speed when I run with him, but I still like using him because he's a good reciever.

I use the Skins and a long time fan. Many people are running wrong. Many will hit the jets in the backfield and that won't work. You have to allow the FB to make his block, and you hit the hole, once you hit the hole hit the jets. Always be ready for a quick juke move to avoid being hit. When I was playing online guys would contain me. Then they miss one tackle and I was off to the pay dirt. In every game I have gotten over 120 yds. of pound on 10-20 car. and @ 4.7 a clip. Running this yr. is tricky. The thing you have to do is follow your blocks, make the right moves when defenders engage, and hit the jets.

i know how to run.i always used the packers and in about 500 games i have a rushing average of 6.7 ypc. but many people told me that running with portis is harder, it seems he haven't a 97 speed

I miss Portis on Madden. :( Hearst is slow as hell compared to using Portis last year. Bell and Griffin will just have to do. BigB is right. Take your time and let it develop. This is the best fullback blocking of seen in a Madden game (IMO) Just practice on the Mini Camps and take it to All Pro or Madden. Experiment and break the old habits of last year cause it's different now. P.S. I'm in love with the formation audibles

Yea, I understand what other people are saying but it sounds like they haven't tried using Portis. I played with GB today and Ahman is much faster and agile.

Yeah, he was kinda slow in the mini camp. I haven't tried him in a game yet, however when I used Priest Holmes he was much faster in the game than in Clinton Portis in mini camp. Then again I have no idea what there speed is compared to one another. :(

Yea these fast RBs aren't quite the force they were last year. For me he starts slow, but once he's in the open feild he starts burning. I think the feild has evened out for at the begining of plays - that is a slower LBs havea chance to make the play now.

I have to disagree with a lot of you, I played with him and it seemed like as soon as I got into open field he had blazing speed. I dunno what his Stamina is, maybe some of you are running him too much.

Of course I played with the Cowboys a lot and the Colts, George and James have like 88 speed or something, so going from them to Portis, I saw a huge difference.

i dont have problems with his speed either. i struggle running sometimes, but not due to his speed. in fact, i tore up denver yesterday with portis. singleback 4wr -> hb cutback. just sliced through the defense. a safety dived at me but i just sped right by him.

I played with portis just to see how he was. I hate the Skins. Go Cowboys. Anyway, when you hand the ball off, the natural tendacy is to hit x for speed burst. Don't do it. The only time you really want to get on that x is when he is out in the open. Not to bust through a gap in the o-line. Hope that may help.

I have a Redskins season started and have had trouble gaining big yards with Portis so far. I do speed burst out of the backfield and will try laying off till I hit the hole. The problem I have with 05 though is what they have done with the break tackle. In 04 speed burst seemed to give speed and power, but now it only gives speed and you drop like a papar doll upon contact. It seems the break tackle button has been moved to the triangle on ps2 (tuck ball) and its hard to know what to use to get downfield. For anyone who is having sucess what is the best way to gain yards and break tackles with Portis? Flat out speed out of the gaps, or go with tuck or stiff arm?

About his speed there is no way he should seem slow with both a 97 speed and 99 acceleration?!?
