If we're talking single seasons, Roger Craig did have one mighty fine year in 88 or 89.. so he's certainly *close* to this list :)
I'd have to go with Jim Brown first, then Sanders on the basis of sheer power. I know Barry was sweet with his feet, but Brown was an unstoppable force of nature. Barry was uncanny with this agility, and breakaway quickness, and had a ton of highlight reel plays, but he also had a lot of runs for losses if i remember right.
Then there's OJ, Payton and Dickerson somewhere in there
there's also the new school guys like LT and Emmitt... but it's hard for me to take some of those first 5 out.

If your talking single year, then Craig belongs. First RB w/ 1,000 yards rushing & 1,000 yards receiving. All-time wise, umm, nope.

it would be interesting to have rb's we've actually watched during the peak of their careers...I was about 8 when the bears won in 85...and in no way was sweetness the rb he was in his early career (when i see highlights of that sb year, vs his earlier years, no comparison!)...
Top 5 rbs seen live
1. Barry Sanders
2. Bo Jackson
3. LT
4. Walter Payton
5. Marshall Faulk
I really wish I've seen Jim Brown, OJ, and Dickerson in their heyday...i wish Madden did Barry some justice during his playing years...always had a quick burst and that was it, never able to utilize him well in the game...I was an Emmitt fan during the Cowboys SB runs, but he def was a product of that HOF offense - solid line, HOF QB, WR...all he had to do was hit the holes

i really dont see how you can leave emmitt off any list.
sanders
payton
emmitt
jim brown
dickerson
i do believe that bo would have been the best ever had he not been injured. i think that craig and faulk were revolutionary to the position and can see them being named. LT, no way... im sorry. campbell could be thrown in, as well as oj. sayers, tony d and marcus allen can all be argued top 10, but not top 5 imho.
the dude that said christian okoye should have had to suffer a 1 week ban. lol

man, that name brought back memories! I remember it was okoye and some other speedy back...

Walter Payton - THE BEST EVER..hands down...the complete package
Jim Brown - so, so, so tough
Gale Sayers - the most explosive...think barry Sanders, but BETTER!!
Marshall Faulk - the most versatile....best pass catcher (him or Marcus Allen)
Earl Campbell - POWER!!!!!
I don't understand how anyone can put Barry sanders on this list...lol....the guy got taken out inside the 10 yard line ROUTINELY because he couldn't deliver "the goods"!!!!

Football is tough, not sure about the gale sayer's bears, or jim brown's browns...but the lions were always plagued with a weak passing game/ suspect o-line...other than that, he was still exciting to watch...
His premature retirement does make me thankful for not seeing him on the decline...Seeing LT right now...wow, then Faulk in his late years, eddie george, the list goes on...

that couldnt be further from the truth... the lions had some unreal passing attacks and some solid lineman. Lomas pro was one of the better tackles of his time
and the lions had some sick passing attacks with herman moore, johnny mitchell and brett perriman. there was one season where moore had like 130 catches and perriman had like 101 in that same year and mitchell threw for over 4000 yards
dont get me wrong, barry was the man, but those teams could pass as well

What are you stuck on hater mode? Hater alert......
Allen is an all time great and Bo was a one of a kind athlete. Dickerson was a Ram, he wasnt any more a Raider then he was a Falcon.

does Bo being an Uber athlete make him an all time great? Terrel David had a bigger impact as a running back than Bo. Does it make Davis an all time great? No

So if you think that then why did you wait for me to post his name before you made a comment about it?
How many others put Bo in their list?
You could probably make an argument for Davis since he did so well in his short time in the game.

I never thought E. Dickerson was tough enough. You can have him.
Crazy as it sounds... Thurman Thomas was dynamite.
Not enough love here for Marcus Allen either... very good. Did anyone mention Franco Harris?
Here's one for you: John Riggins. Played good and tough for many years. Faster than a typical FB too. I'd take him on my team.
