Ever notice the double standerd some people put on their views toward homosexuality?
I was reading a couple threads on this forum awhile back. Out of hate, one member called another member a f--got. Then the moderaters were quick to jump on the member spewing out hate, stating that bigotry isn't tolerated on the forum. Next a forum member creates a thread titled: I'm thinking about dying my hair pink, does that make me gay? That title in itself is bigotry. It is no different than me saying- I like rap music does that make black; or I eat refried beans and tacos does that make me mexican? Then the moderaters go so far as to poke fun at the thread starter bringing into question his sexual orientation and what not, simply because of the color he wants to die his hair. Now making jokes about someone's sexual preference based on what color there hair is is no different than me calling you a racial slur based on the music you listen to or the food you eat.
The reason I bring this up is because of the new bill Obama wants to pass that will turn actions against homosexuals into hate crimes. If one is to speak out against gay marriage then they will be labeled under the new law as a bigot.
Call, write, e-mail, your local congressman and say NO to passing legislation on hate crimes... Boy, my grandparents have to be rolling over in their graves right out. This bill wouldn't see the light of day in their time.

It's one thing for a member to use offensive terms as a personal attack against someone, but it's another when a forum member sets himself up to be joked at.... which was clearly the case when kevin dyed his hair (off center... lol) and post about it. He knew when he posted it he was gonna get it from some people. I doubt if he was really offended by anything anyone said.
As for hate crimes, i'm not a fan of the label. There's already enough legal terms to cover whatever crime happens to someone.
There are people who believe that marrige is between a man and a woman because of their religious beliefs, not because they are bigots. Personally, i think gays should eb able to marry. But i understand those who believe otherwise.
Kinda funny how homosexuals want their values tolerated but they have a hard time tolerating other's values on a lot of issues.

Then is it OK for me to call QBstokes an- african american racial slur- because he likes rap music, just as long as he is not offended by it because he is not black?
Ya see, there is a double standerd in that. No way would it be fine for me to call QBstokes an- african american racail slur- on these forums. When you make light of Kev's sexual orentation because of the color of his hair you're offending not Kev but homosexuals.

oh god...Theres a big difference in someone being called a nigger and someone being called a fag. Sorry, it's not on the same level. If you don't understand that, then I don't know what to tell you.
as for a "hate crime" bill...Why should the penalties for any crime be worse if someone happens to be gay? Are there not laws that we are all equally protected under should our rights be violated? The same would go for "hate crimes" against any thing. (not saying race because gay people are not a race)
the truth of the matter is the whole purpose of a bill like this would be to punish a church for preaching that homosexuality is a sin. (which it is according to every christian based and most other religions) the whole marriage issue is also an attack on religion because most religions refer to the life style as an abomination.
Personally, the word marriage is a religious term. All marriages as recogized by the state should be called civil unions, should be limited by the only restriction that it is between two, and only two consenting adults of legal age. All the same rights and benfits should be afforded but the one twist I would throw in is that if you get divorced, you can't re-marry for an extended period of time and any kind of finacial benfit to getting married would be forever forfieted. I dont advocate that kind of life style but in reality, legal or illegal, theyre gonna do it anyway. It's only them that really effected by it directly. Adoption is a different issue however, as this is typicalled tied in to the argument because youre automatically putting a child at a disadvantage with no real model for one of the sexes and their role in society. I just dont see how that could be developmentally healthy for any child.

Is it alright to call some a f-- and not alright to call them a n-----? If so, then why would a moderator need to hush the person using the term f--, why not just let it go then instead of warning to ban them for using that term?

madden forums dont equal the real world buddy. Calling someone a nigger with ill intent is much worse than calling someone a ****** with the same motive. neither should have a hate crime attached to it though.
good job reading the whole post though and not getting hung up on the first line....

So what you are saying is that it is OK to be a bigot towards homosexuals but not OK towards black people. That is a double standerd.

New rule: If you can't spell "standard", you're not allowed to write about it. :p

lol, how is the word nigger not blocked? I think the whole marriae thing is something of a gotcha tactic. If your view is that it shouldn't take place, that shouldn't have any effect on passing a law that would make it ok. I understand what you were saying about marriage being a religious term, but it's also used by the government for other purposes. So, basically, I, don't see why gay or lesbian couples can't get married. Jews aren't supposed to eat pork, but that doesn't mean it should be illegal to consume pork, right?

Because there are times when someone is joking and times when they are not. If a "joke" is in bad taste (which happens) then members are encouraged to contact a mod to handle it. If it's a straight personal attack then members are encouraged to contact a mod to handle it.
But here's the kicker - it's ok for homosexuals to call each other that but a straight person can't.

I have gay friends and I call them gay all the time. Like damn (insert name) thats so ****ing gay. or he does something fruity and hes met with a "fag". the same way some white people can call a black person a nigger or a "nigga". Using the word gay to refer to something being "stupid", I dont really care. Get over it.
theres a huge difference between being black and being gay....black people dont choose to be black. Gay people arent a race. Can a fat person cry hate crime if someone calls them a lard ***? Same as the gay thing. sorry.

I strongly encourage you to pray for your gay friends that they see the error of their ways. And if you work up the courage give them some sound doctorine too.
What are their names? I'll pray for them as well.

or, they could just hide who they really are and hide behind a book and some false, and misinterpreted messages. Better yet they could become clergy. Could you please pray for the mcrib to come back as a permanent fixture? PLEASE???

I'd like to know what you guys think... I believe that someone isn't born gay. It isnt natural and therefor I believe that gays use gayness as a mask for trouble in their lives. Some sort of a way for attention or escape from something but someone is not born gay. I think the suppressed natural feeling of sexuality causes oddities in such people and I for one would not want a gay being the leader of the boy scouts of which my child attends.

i think it's just a preference that's developed through one's life. Although some of the physical differences (lisp talking, femininistic mannerisms in gay males, etc) would lend itself to being born that way.
I don't think it really matters how they got that way. The main point should be that they are still human beings and should enjoy every human right that everyone else should have.

I personally have no real opinion on being born gay, or choosing to be gay. I don't ever really think about it, as I typically have more important things to worry about. And dude, they're gay, not pedophiles.
