http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2009/05/29/charges-black-panthers-dropped-obama/
Charges brought against three members of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense under the Bush administration have been dropped by the Obama Justice Department, FOX News has learned.
The charges stemmed from an incident at a Philadelphia polling place on Election Day 2008 when three members of the party were accused of trying to threaten voters and block poll and campaign workers by the threat of force -- one even brandishing what prosecutors call a deadly weapon.
The three black panthers, Minister King Samir Shabazz, Malik Zulu Shabazz and Jerry Jackson were charged in a civil complaint in the final days of the Bush administration with violating the voter rights act by using coercion, threats and intimidation. Shabazz allegedly held a nightstick or baton that prosecutors said he pointed at people and menacingly tapped it. Prosecutors also say he "supports racially motivated violence against non-blacks and Jews."
VIDEO: Click to watch the incident on YouTube
The complaint says the men hurled racial slurs at both blacks and whites.
A poll watcher who provided an affidavit to prosecutors in the case noted that Bartle Bull, who worked as a civil rights lawyer in the south in the 1960's and is a former campaign manager for Robert Kennedy, said it was the most blatant form of voter intimidation he had ever seen.
In his affidavit, obtained by FOX News, Bull wrote "I watched the two uniformed men confront voters and attempt to intimidate voters. They were positioned in a location that forced every voter to pass in close proximity to them. The weapon was openly displayed and brandished in plain sight of voters."
He also said they tried to "interfere with the work of other poll observers ... whom the uniformed men apparently believed did not share their preferences politically," noting that one of the panthers turned toward the white poll observers and said "you are about to be ruled by the black man, cracker."
A spokesman for the Department of Justice told FOX News, "The Justice Department was successful in obtaining an injunction that prohibits the defendant who brandished a weapon outside a Philadelphia polling place from doing so again. Claims were dismissed against the other defendants based on a careful assessment of the facts and the law. The department is committed to the vigorous prosecution of those who intimidate, threaten or coerce anyone exercising his or her sacred right to vote."

Man stop cryn. Ok, the snake now permits voter intimidation. How many snakes before him have permitted the same thing? Luckily in this case it's isolated. Three people at one voting spot. Lets imagine if it were an entire city. Or even an entire half of the nation. Ring a bell? And Bush allows his friends to lie under oath and he gives them a pass so they don't have to serve any jailtime. It's time you realize that ALL politicians are crooked. Dems, Repubs, and Independants. You'll never even make it to the level of running for an office like prez if you don't have someone, some company, or some rich people w/particular interest behind you. It's politics man. So you continue on with your keyboard and fight the power!!! You, Hannity, and Bill O'really (I spelled it like that on purpose!!!) and one day you'll realize that all of these so called elected officials are laying the groundwork for the one who follows. Be it dem or repub. It's all a game and the pawns who are loyal to one party are the biggest losers of all. Recognize game when you see it. Have you not realized that "Obama" is following Bush's policy's when it comes to the war? What happened to all the change? Now they're talking about implementing a new federal tax? What happened to lower taxes? It's all smoking mirrors? And as long as they can keep you and nevada against each other they can keep toasting it up and laughing at the white house.

Wasn't it the Bush administration who initiated the charges? Huh? Yes.
Obama is a radical and will defend those who use radical means to achieve thier goals. That is why he loves Bill Ayers and J. Wright. He is a waste of a presidency and a political thug. Disgusting.

Good post and i absolutely agree with you that all politicians are crooked. I do not see why we cannot talk about corrupt things presidents do just because past presidents do it. That makes no sense. I'm not picking on Obama particularity because he is just like every conniving politician. It is our responsibility along with the media to be the watchdog of the government. Should we the people just ignore these corrupt ways of our government? NO, I think we should raise awareness because only by raising awareness will we ever see any progress in our government system.

Sup,
An injunction was issued against the guy involved. That seems fair to me. If he does it again then he is in real trouble. If not punished thereafter then...that's when we see justice has failed.
In this case, I think the right approach was taken. I doubt that we can rule conclusively that Obama favors voter intimidation just by this one isolated incident.
I'm no fan of this president either, but I honestly believe that the right course of action was taken here. What are we going to do to the guy? At best, this crime barely qualifies under assault (in any degree) since no formal confrontation is ever made between the guy in question and anyone else (to our knowledge). Therefore, there just doesn't seem to be any sort of strong case for prosecuting the guy. (no matter how much you or I disagree with him)
Had he acted on his beliefs (from the article)...he'd be facing probably a hefty fine and imprisonment, but that was not the case.
P.S.
IT SHOULD NEVER BE ACCEPTABLE TO TELL SOMEONE TO KILL THEMSELVES...F'IN CRIPES BUDDY...

Supdog, you're talking about this like it's the only time voter intimidation has ever happened. I would guarantee that if you looked into it, there would probably be hundreds if not thousands of cases of things like this happening. This isn't a left/right thing, this is more a moron trying to be a hardass thing. Too bad theres no room for guys like this in jail, you know, cuz of all the non-violent drug offenders that have to be kept away from the public.

Nope, you punish them to the fullest extent of the law. You then increase the severity of the law to prevent the thugs from doing it again. Obama did nothing but encourage this behavior, and if you think that they will be punished next time? Please.

No, I disagree with you Gibbs. Bill Ayers is a thug. Harry Reid is a sissified political thug.
I have said that I think that a vast majority of African Americans are highly intelligent people (with the exception of San An :p). I also believe a majority are good, compasionate people. How is that racist?
One could argue that you and your tiresome "creations" of charecters, well, this one anyway could be seen as racist. Ya know?
i.e. if you would have posted the "harlem comment" under your "JoeJGibbs" handle, you could be labeled as a racist. Of course, that wouldn't happen since you are a big lib, but if I were to do what you did???????????
Like I said on many occasions, the racist thing is a way to avoid the reality of the truth. It is what you, JJ, and san an do all the time. When all else fails "race card time".
I think you are an internet thug for playing the race card. You are white, correct?
There ya go thug. :)

The subject at hand is not whether or not voter intimidation occurs. Its why Obama gave them a pass for their actions. It actually doesn't surprise me that Obama would do this... stupid socialist bastard.

Lol, what does socialism have to do with this? I get what you're saying sup, but my point is that in places like L.A., for instance, they regularly release people from jail because of overcrowding. And I guess it just doesn't make sense to throw people in jail for things like possession, when tools like this candy-***, time after time will get away with acting like an idiot. Which would you rather spend 50k a year on? Might as well pardon everyone anoyhow, since we'll all be drafted to go fight in N. Korea soon enough.

IMO, this is much bigger than overcrowded prisons, etc. One of the greatest gifts our country gives us is the right to vote, and to vote without any intimidation. Obama, being the snake he is, is not concerned with this gift, as long as the ones who intimidate are on his political payroll (i.e. they support his evil socialist, racist ways). THERE IS NO WAY THAT OBAMA SHOULD NOT HAVE MADE A SYMBOLIC GESTURE BY PROSECUTING TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW! In doing so, he would have sent a message to the Black Panther Party that there thug behavior would not be tolerated. Why would he not do this? I know, I know!!!!!
It does not matter how you twist it, there is no exuse for this "administration" to sit on its hands on this. He sent a message to his radical friends, a message of using violent intimidation tactics will be tolerated as long as they benefit liberals. End of story.

"Boohoo.....they called me a thug........." So what? Perhaps instead of crying about it, they should focus on curtailing the conduct that gets them the "thug" label to begin with.
Members of the Mafia are referred to in the main stream media as thugs all the time. Last time I checked, not many of them are black.
You never hear people refer to Obama as a "thug" or Bill Cosby as a "thug". There is a reason people like Kenyon Martin, 50-cent, and these Black Panther idiots are referred to as such, and it has nothing to do with race.

Bill Laimbeer was one of the most notorious players ever to throw an elbow, thrust a hip, or feign being fouled. Certainly, no player was ever showered with more boos or unflattering nicknames. Laimbeer was called "the prince of darkness," "a street thug," "an ax murderer" and "His Heinous."
