She mentioned during her speech about being a lame duck. How can you be a lame duck in your first term? It seems obvious that she wants to run for president, but wouldn't it make more sense to continue as governor to gain more political experience?

If her goal is to run for Prez then this was the absolute worst thing she could do. She bailed on a state that is having just as many problems as every other state right now.
She went off on so many tangents in that speech today that it's impossible to really understand exctly why she is quitting. At one point she tried to describe the pressure she's feeling as a "nationwide full court press". Say what? Maybe people in Alaska are pressuring her to do some things but there isn't any "nationwide" pressure on her to do anything.
Another attempted point she tried to make was that she has accomplished everything she wanted to accomplish in 2 1/2 years, leaving the impression that there's nothing important left for her to do as governor. Say what again?

she resigned because of all the money that has been going into her other political commitments and because they was jus too wuff wif her wittle baby. I think she stepped down because she was never under scrutiny before the last race, and now every move she makes is a big deal. She's afraid to make a mistake. Or maybe she's helping out with her husbands redneck brigade that wanna secede from the U.S. and wish that nothing good happens to the rest of us.

It's all good though, if NK fires a missle at Alaska Obama says we have "options".....

This may be true. However, there would be no doubt about it if Bush was still in office.
NK continues to grow louder in their saber rattles. This will continue because the "president" is an apppeasing sissy.
You know his, "we offer you our hand if you uncleanch your fist" remark? NONSENSE!

How nice. Not a Disciple has been MIA since the election and his first thread is about Palin. Naw, never mind the unprecedented spending, never mind the Cap and Tax, never mind the foreign policy joke Obama is, etc. Nope, Palin. I wonder if Not a Disciple can give us a critique of her clothing before he runs back to the safety of the Sports Bar?
Just like I said, he voted based on race and emotion and has not a clue! NOTHING MORE. I hope your libs are still "feeling good", because the evil is about to kick in!!!!

Not may be true it is true. Regardless of what you may think Obama will do most of the rest of the world realizes just how far they can go with Obama before it's armaggeddon time. Saber rattling is all well and good until you pull it. It's at that time I have no doubt Obama will have NK and anybody else frantically trying to get the toothpaste back into the tube.
Iran, North Korea, India, Pakistan would be a road flare on the world highway and you know it. But you better have some diplomatic contingencies laid out for example with China, Russia and others so that crap doesn't escalate to WWIII. Thats why Obama has extended his hand for later on down the road if needed.

Or you could always make a thread about NK firing those missiles - we are capable of talking about more than one thing at a time (with a lot more sense than Palin does).
Interesting that you don't have a comment directly related to the Palin resignation though. If it was a top shelf Dem, you would have started the thread :)

How does quitting on a state that is having problems help her? She's taken a massive fall from grace the last few months as well. When McCain tabbed her for VP she was the #1 most popular governor in the country. As of yesterday, before jumping ship, she was barely in the top 20. This doesn't help her whatsoever.
Just imagine the commercials & debate arguements any opponent could put together based off this alone. Even the statement she made yesterday that her resignation is what's best for Alaska - she never said why. If not being governor is good for Alaska then how could voters possibly think she'd be better at anything more?
It really is incredibly strange to me that she's done this. She got off to a really good start as a governor for Alaska, they loved her up there. Then the bottom started falling out on her for some reason - not sure why, i don't really keep up with Alaskan politics. But even the speech she gave yesterday was extremely odd. She was like 12 minutes into it before she said she was handing the reigns over to the Lt Gov, like it was an "oh by the way" thing.
Maybe there's some personal issues going on that she didn't want to talk about and that's fine. It would be much less confusing and much more accepted if she would have said there were some personal problems that were ore important at this time and left it at that. But believing this a political plus on the road to something more is just whacked. If that's the case then she needs some new advisors :)
All of the GOP rising stars are dropping like comets.

like i said son,i dont get it either. I think I understand the reasoning. The liberal left hates her, the "moderate right" hates her and I think she was having a problem with people bringing some sort of ethics violations claims, all unfounded and debunked, that was costing the state a lot of money to defend.
another logical explanation was to give the Lt gov experience for when he runs for re-election but still...Doesn't make sense unless she was just tired of the stupid attacks from the biased liberal media.

I don't buy that for a minute.. and if it was costing the state so much money then she's going about disputing those attacks the wrong way. I mean, how much money could it cost to issue a a statement that says "Those allegations are untrue" and leave it at that? Bad decision making if she felt she had to go as far as to spend state money to defend herself in the court of public opinion.
But it's all conjecture on our part, none of us know the real reasons behind this because she simply won't make it clear what they are. Now I'm hearing this "higher calling" thing, whatever that means in her mind.

Son, I saw it on the news. I don't have a handy link for you and if you really wanna know, take your attitude and google it. Take five seconds out of your miserable life instead of just driving by and taking pop shots at her. Why would the women's rights groups get involved? She doesn't have any of the same ideals as any of them really. The big ones anyways. She doesn't stand for personal freedoms. Whats funny is she's a "New Conservative", but she was in charge of what is pretty much a welfare state. Maybe thats why she left? Plus I don't get why anyone would think she's even qualified enough to run for pres, she runs a state thats has a population of like a third of Chicago. Not to mention the fact that if she can't take people making inappropriate comments about her and her family, even if they are in fact inappropriate, how can she possibly handle the amount of scrutiny that all presidents from here on out will be under? I'm still betting on Ron Paul to pull out the GOP's last legs from under it.

Nevada, there's been 15 different ethics violation cases leveled against Palin,
Costing Alaska upwards of almost one million dollars, every case resulting in her bein exonerated of the charges. Don't sit there and act like these things are 8 months old...they've been ongoing since she hit the national stage.

I asked what they were, outside of the trooper one (which is 8 months old). I'm not "acting" like anything, I'm seeking the information. Evidently you have it so share brother, what are they?
Secondly, is $1 million the total? If so, I can't help but think "is that all?"
Third, you say "exonerated of the charges", does that mean she was actually taken to court on all of them? Help me out here Res, I'm simply looking to be informed on the situation further so i cna be as fair as possible in my thinking.

Ethics complaints against Gov. Sarah Palin and top members of her administration have cost the state personnel board nearly $300,000 over the past year, almost two-thirds of which appear to be from the Troopergate investigation of the governor.
That's according to new figures released by the personnel board, which described them as "independent counsel expenditures." The board hires private lawyers to investigate the complaints. The expenditures were released after the personnel board expressed frustration at the costs of the complaints. Palin has said the state is wasting money trying to resolve "frivolous" complaints against her.
The bulk of the expenses -- $187,797 -- appear to stem from Troopergate, the messy case involving Palin's former brother-in-law, a state trooper, who got on the wrong side with Palin and her family.
The most expensive cases were all from last year. The third most costly one, which was listed at $29,962, could be a complaint made against Palin for having the state pay for her children's travel. Palin ended up settling that complaint by agreeing to reimburse the state about $8,000 for several trips.
The governor's office has said 15 "frivolous" ethics complaints against Palin or her staff, some on issues raised by bloggers, have been dismissed with no findings she violated the executive branch ethics act. "How much will this blogger's asinine political grandstanding cost all of us in time and money?" she asked about a March complaint.
Palin herself reportedly has incurred over $600,000 in personal legal bills defending against complaints, although she won't provide a breakdown of the expenses or what cases they were for. Palin friends and supporters set up a legal defense fund and are soliciting contributions for her legal bills.

Bloggers? Seriously? She's being bullied out of office from spending money to defend her "ethics" to bloggers? Interesting to note how much she has reportedly spent, maybe she quit cuz the bloggers were making her go bankrupt.

Well, I have seen the 2 million dollar figure a couple of places, and I've heard on several different radio shows, both talk show, and news shows. It didn't magically come out of thin air. I'll try to find out more about that.
By the way, it's not that she's being bullied by bloggers...it's that these people are filing complaints, and those complaints have to be investigated. And what if she is stepping down cause they were going bankrupt? They do reportedly have around $500k in legal fees from all this stuff. They aren't wealthy...and they can't pull a Clinton, and have some Asian dude buy military secrets in order to pay off their debt. Instead of mocking Palin for it, you should be talking about how bad of a person these people are to keep filing these ridiculous complaints just to make her life a legal hell.

Just because it was amusing:
“I think on a national level, your department of law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we’ve been charged with and automatically throw them out,” she said.
There is no “Department of Law” at the White House.
As far as the costs, you can see the source I used and where their number comes from - straight from the state. Not sure what else could be added to it that would make it suddenly rise to $2 million (and yes, that number could have been pulled out of thin air by anyone trying to exaggerate a point). I did my best to find the most reliable source for how much was spent.
Here's a confusing part though, if these are cases vs a governor, why are they spending their own money on it? The legal defense against a Governor on something like this is a state cost isn't it? Plus, Palin won't release itemized cost of the $500,000 she says she spent. If these were private matters then there wouldn't be an issue with keeping that private.

We'll, those numbers only apply to the investigation...perhaps there are other costs? I don't know.
Also, I don't know if there would be need for a governor to spend their own money in their defense...I'm not a lawyer.

Okay first off I never like Barney Frank & he smell & sound like a crook from day one so i guess we agree on that....Far as S.Palin my issues i have with her is she don't realize that J.McCain campaign manger(not him) used her. They never wanted her, she was never the clear choice to be the VP.I have a issue with her not telling the truth about trooper gate & the so called bridge to nowhere....Okay everyone in politic lie at some point or other but hers lies just didn't stop & they still coming....her so called son in law now said a month ago that he wasn't going to marry her daughter.S.Palin clearly said they was in love & was set to get married but i guess not getting into the White house derail those plans.Plus i expect someone that is in Politic to conduct there self better when it comes to the media & not act childish responding to everything they say or write which is garbage most of the time. I'm not a REP supporter but if i had to vote for one in 2012 it would be M.Huckabee he is a class act maybe she should study him.

Ahhh...I see. So, when she said that they were planning on getting married, that was a lie? Perhaps at the time they WERE planning on getting married. She didn't say they were married, and then it turned out later that they were not married.
What are you talking about with acting childish towards the media? I'd say that the media constantly making fun of her, making rude comments about her and her children, is acting childish. Defending oneself, and one's family, is not being childish.

So, okay, I have a question. Why did it ever matter if Palin's daughter ever got married? I don't think this was a left/right thing. I think this was just a stupid subject to ever be brought up. I'm pretty sure if she was VP, and we as a country were on the downward spiral, my first thought wouldn't be, "phew, at least the Palin girl is married." WTF?
