As we continue to tie our own hands behind our backs which is absolutley unbeleivable.

11. Insurance companies at $126B
I would be so amazed if health care happens but special interests says other wise.

5. State and Local governments at $522B
4. Japan at $634B
3. China at $739B
God forbid these two ever call in the marker. So for China we continue to give one of the most egregious human rights abusers "Favored Nation Status". For Japan our lip prints are permanently embossed on their back side as we hope Nagasaki and Hiroshima have faded from the Japanese collective consciousness.
2. Mutual Funds $769B
And the number one holder of US debt and this was predicted that this would occur virtually assuring it's survival is................
1. The Federal Reserve at $4.8T

But if we just keep throwing money at it, the debt will go away right?

I wouldn't worry about China and Japan. Especially Japan. I'd be more worried about us getting back in the same pattern we were in 5 or 6 years ago. It's actually looking that way. China is a good market to get in right now for companies like Potash. The problem gets worse I think when WE buy our own debt from ourselves. Other countries won't call in markers because they like having us a trade partner, the more they have the better they are. We, however, on the other hand, are basically constructing new ways of buying up debt, and then before having to deal with it, unloading it on each other for a profit. So, I, thinkwe are our own worst enemy, not China or Japan.

I don't understand any of this. Especially the Fed. I just know carrying debt is bad. And carrying more and more debt every day is badder.

It makes sense if you believe the Fed has evil intentions.

Debt isn't necessarily bad. What is bad is when we are profiting off of businesses that are inevitably going to fail. There's a lot of scams and things of the sort but that woiuld take forever to go over them all. The Fed doesn't really have anyhting to do with creating debt. They more or less set guidlines for long and short term interest rates, things like that. What created bad debt is when we tell China we need to borrow some money for infrastructure, but spend all that money on trying to send someone to mars or something else like that. Those things are definately wasteful in a time like this, and other countries don't necessarily want to see us squander their money on something unnecessary.

Even if we were to balance the budget, we'd still become more in debt.

Thank god for compounded interest.

Also...good luck to the current administration to spend us out of debt into prosperity...

Anyone know the current market value of fallout shelters these days?

Honestly, we haven't even seen the end of the beginning of our recession yet. I shudder everyday the dollar gains. It's gonna do nothing but fall, after it devalues a lot of other stocks and bonds first, which will make it comparably worse. Will we all be homeless and dying? prolly not, but there's gonna be a lot of people left holding their dick in their hands fi they play the markets wrong this summer.

I don't think anyone in here is "connected". Sad but true, it is a necessity. And I don't think that there is much patience to deal with complete morons that have also been elected.

Then nothing will ever change. It starts locally. Some of you guys should think about mayor or city council positions. Make a name for yourself locally, then statwide, then move up.

True. But here's the thing, are you gonna elect the idealist young guy with basically no relevant schooling, or the guy thats been around since forever and knows what he's doing, but at the same time has his pockets lined. It's unfortunate, but I think people have become accustomed to accepting crooked politicians. Besides, would you really wanna sit and listen to something like Supdog and myself argue for hours in a session? :p

The way I see it rich are the politicians... no pun intended. I just finished an internship in the Florida House of Representatives and believe it or not but every single politician is a decorated millionaire. The poorest person I believe is worth about $2 million, and we just busted our Speaker of the House earlier this year for ethics (funnelling state money to his pockets - google Ray Sansom).

The way I see it the rich are the ones making the policies on the Democratic and Republican side of the table. You have to have money to run, you can't always be the charasmatic average joe who is willing to run for office and actually make a difference. The way i honestly see it you have to have the connects and the money to even run for office, and you're not even guaranteed to make a difference or have a big impact being a freshman politician/legislator.

I believe the average Joe can make it happen. He would have to work harder cuz he doesn't have the money to begin with, but if he plays the fund-raiser game right and gets the right team around him, he can compete with the crooks. In fact, he could promote his campaign by exposing the crooks for what they are - not with "hate ads" but with "truth ads".

Lol, maybe that was a bad choice. You actually got me goin on this man. I've kinda always flirted with the idea for running for something, coffee runner or somethin. I dunno, htough I always get amped up until I see what I'd have to do. Plus I'm only 24, lol, I'm sure that'd be looked upon as a positive. :D

I think the best place to start would be a city council or county position. And yea, it's not going to be easy. You're gonna have to go do all that door knocking, talking to people, shaking hands, be ready for the questions you'll be asked about the issues that concern the position you run for, giving speeches - then if you get elected, applying the things that would make you different than all the crooks that came before you and stat building your reputation :)

I say if you're motivated enough, look into what elections you have coming up locally for November 2010. If something seems appealing, go for it.

It happens. just not nationally. All the guys you see on tv or even in the STATE senate have all been city councilors or mayors for like 20 years. I think another part of it is that you have to be active in a lot of different committees within the city. Lol, There has to be more to it as well. Where I live the city council only meets twice a month and once a month in the summer. I'd kill myself from the boredom. Lol, I guess that's why they all belong to the different gruops, never thought of that before. :p
