View Full Version : HB Direct Snap

It seems as though the halfback direct snap is in full force again as i recall it beating me in a 7-3 game. The only success the kid that i played had was out of the direct snap. I couldn't fully commit to it knowing that the kid would fire back at me with a screen or quick out because he had a decent scheme built around it. But anyways, I had some success with the 3-4 over sting pinch zone nano but then he torched the flats. I tried tons of thing without trying to overcommit: I crashed the line to the side, I slid my backers and line to the halfback's side, and i even blitzed my front 7. I was hoping to get some collaboration about stopping this, especially because i'm playing in the second round at the gamestop tourney and I'm sure it will be abused there
Thanks

You could try Outside Rush from the 46 book with the speed package.

I went up against it, and after letting up a couple scores quick (caught me totally off guard for a minute) I started shutting it down with a lot of outside blitzes and very intense stick control with my DE (either trent cole or parker, or at one point in subbed in omar gaither at LE for Parker, for more quickness).
the guy I faced ran PA quite a lot, hitting the HB that he faked to, which then proceeded to go to the flat. even though I was controlling the DE, the cpu always sucked my usered DE player into a block if i was anywhere near an opponent. so i had to stick the HB myself with very good timing and try mightily to stay away from having my USERED player get sucked into blocks . it was hit or miss for me, cause then he went to the quick out like you said, though cover 2's were shutting that down for me. he never went deep, just tried the HB direct, the PA pass to the HB in the flat, the TE quick out, or sometimes if he felt frisky he'd scramble with his QB. it was quite annoying and tedious.
I think a heavy dose of cover 2 or cover 2 hawk coupled with some OLB blitzes, cover 1, stuff like that. dropping everyone back is no good cause you'll give him 5+ yards a pop.

that didn't work against the HB direct.
if the opponent is using the Panthers or Titans forget about it. their HBs are too quick and fast. they'll bounce it outside with your OLB/SS jamming into the line for no effect. you may have to use the SS/ROLB to the side you think he's going to run, but even then it's hit or miss. and then it's 1 out of 4 attempts. pain in the behind.

Exactly. Mix in some screens and a playaction and you will be toast. The HB Direct out of a "certain" playbook is ridiculous.

yeah, MoneyMo and Huntin have better stick than me and are certainly better madden gamers and even they are saying it's a pain for them... we've discussed it in the NGML league forums

we're most likely going to ban this specific HB Direct play for our league, since it would make the league very un-fun.
