A lot of Americans seem to forget that this is a part of our history. Most of the camps were in the West Coast, so do people in the East Coast know about these camps and what went on in them?

They talk about it often in Seattle, I think they held a lot of them there to.

I havren't been west of the Rockies since I was 3 years old and I know of this. Pretty crazy stuff. Nowadays Americans look at all this crazy stuff we did and don't realize it was less than 100 years ago! We just have this feeling now that all of the horrible stuf was done "way back then" and that there's no way it could happen now. Hmm. . . .

They hardly ever talk about it here. But I recently read a book called "Lies your teachers told you" and there's tons of great info on our history in there. Such as, technically Africans were the first settlers in America (non-Indian of course).

This thread about to be 99 heated. I did read up on it after this thread was posted. Seems like some "District 9" type stuff. Pretty good read, I never heard of it until now.

Any history book that tries to bring to light lies of past historians is often as inaccurate as the ones before it. Just less ideologically. And how come we treat American Indians as if they're the only demographic that aren't immigrants? The AmerInd's are immigrants too. :D

And add South Pac Islanders to the list of people who got here before Colombus. Maybe even before the Africans you mention.

Look how we tried to assimilate the American Indians here. We put them in schools and more or less tried to remove their culture from them as children. They weren't allowed to speak their native language, practice their religion, ect, ect. This was going on up until very recent. Not somthing they will tell you about in schools though.

Why exactly was this moved to the politics section?

What does this have to do with politics? It's history.

I don't see how this thread is more about politics than this one:

Because that thread was posted before there was a Town Hall section. Sorry but the mods are not going to go through 7 years of posts from thousands of members to move political ones to the Town Hall.

The Japanese Internment was the effect of an Executive Order from Franklin Roosevelt. That's political enough for me.

Dude, quit being Fascist-Mod. Funny how the stuff that Mods should actually do something about gets ignored but locking and moving threads "Hey no problem!"

No problem is correct.

Although I don't have to justify the move of this thread, I will anyway because the topic is knee-deep in political ramifications and there's no way to effectively have this conversation without bringing politics into the mix eventually:

President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which established 10 internment camps for "national security" purposes.

It was by the government-sponsored WRA (War Relocation Authority)

The Japanese were not the only ones. Germans and Italians were also "interned". Interestingly enough, the U.S. government officially apologized for the internment in 1988, saying that it was based on "race prejudice, war hysteria, and a failure of political leadership," and paid reparations to former Japanese inmates who were still alive, while paying no reparations to interned Italians or Germans.

Not true.

You made that thread regarding rape in Afghanistan on April 2, 2009 when the first thread in the Town Hall was on February 4, 2009 (http://www.maddentips.com/forums/showthread.php?t=121691).

In addition to that, I openly questioned why you hadn't moved it to the Town Hall and you said that it was a "cultural issue" and not "political one."

ok, if you already asked me at the time and i gave you the answer then, why ask again? Another mod could have easily moved that thread here if they felt it belonged here.

Doesn't matter. i decided to move this thread here for the reasons i stated above. End of story. You guys can continue to talk about the thread topic or not, that's up to you.
