I run a high pressure defense (ie, I give up long bombs often  ), but that does well against option teams. I smoked Syracuse 58-0 last night (vs CPU, so...). This was mostly with outside blitzing pressure.

Against a human opponent you will need to be more conservative with your blitzer (if you play the blitzer) to read if it is a pass or option, but you should get good outside contain.

Several blitzes have a corner or safety on one size blitzing as well as a LB from the opposite side blitzing. These are good at containing both the FB dive and outside option.

Just make sure you tackle, or you're gonna give up yards. :o

In the filmroom, it has several defenses to stop the option.

...3-3-5 Doble Spys.....control one of the LB's and blitz him if you know which way the play is going...pressure from the outside works well, unless your opponent knows what he is doing, because he will start to pound it up the middle if you stop him to the outside.....

That's why I mentioned the blitzes that have one outside guy(CB/S) blitzing from the outside and one LB blitzing from the inside. As long as you make a reasonbly good guess which direction the play is going in, that will do a decent job of stuffing inside and out runs (but leaves other things vulnerable, obviously).

Even if you get the play side wrong, I've had times where I've taken the option down from behind with the blitzing db. Just stick with the play.

the 4-2-5 and 3-3-5 zone blitzes also work well for me when stopping options, they do real well against speed options.
