In just playing the game for a few weeks I've noticed a few things. We could use this thread exclusively for tips on the game. Not general information.
Navigating Maps
Control/Aiming
Game Strategy
Navigating
* When you're moving about the map, every now and then spin around and take glance behind you. I've caught a few people that either
a) didn't see me run by and I was able to double back and get an easy kill
b) tried to sneak behind me
* Sometimes when I run past someone I'll catch a glimpse of someone late.
I'll pretend I didn't see them because I know that they'll be following me into a room or alley. I'll turn the corner and spin while backing up and let their curiosity get the better of them. Of course sometimes, I'll get shot in the back using this method.
* Don't just go somewhere and stand there. Move, stop, look around, move stop look around. Every time I've gone somewhere and stopped moving, someone is lining me up in the scope. When I sporadically move, they seem to have a hard time lining me and will give away their location with misfires.

*Piecing together long kill streaks :
My most successful setup is 5 [Predator Missile], 7 [Attack Helicopter], and 11 [Chopper Gunner].
If you're playing against a group that is really working as a team this is even more effective at times - get to 5 and you're money. Once you get the predator missile [find a spot where you can lay down and won't be easily spotted before calling it in] you should be able to get at least 1, maybe even 2 or 3 kills out of it. If you see guys close together or even a small distance away from each other, drop it right between them, then call in that Attack Helicopter. I like the Attack Helicopter over the Harrier because it stays moving for most of the 60 seconds. Get 1 or 2 kills yourself from there and voila, the Chopper Gunner should get you at least 10 kills or so. I've been able to get 25 kills a bunch of times using this setup.

the kill streak kills dont go toward your kill streak though right? like the predator missle wont go toward getting the chopper gunner and the gunner kills wont go toward the next reward right?

Sentry gun as a killstreak does count toward your overall killstreak, but Sentry gun from the killstreak care package or emergency air drop does not.
because i know for sure i have gotten kills off the sentry gun before but i didnt get my next reward. maybe im wrong, or maybe i died in between time. i gotta pay more attention. im gonna swap out me care package though. im finally starting to get better where i might be able to actually real off 9 one day, lol.

No your right on, I had a sentry gun set up at the only flag my team didn't have in domination, is was right where the other team was spawning and I got liek 12 or 13 kills in a row and it adds to your kill total but not to kill streak.

Great tip. I have a 57" but sit at least 10 or 12 feet away, moved in front of my coffee table every so often and see way more...esp movement on certain levels...Wasteland, underpass,e tc.

I'm not certain about sentry guns but I know on other streaks like harrier and predator that do go towards your kill streaks unless lets say if you have a harrier ready to be used, you die, then you call it in, that does not count towards your kill streak. It has to be in the same life.

- Don't be afraid to use buildings and high ground. It is a lot easier for you to shoot down out of the buildings than the enemy to shoot up.
- Make good use of the radar. When you see a group of red dots, make sure you approach from the side by flanking rather than attacking head on. Even a slight movement to the left or right can give you that advantage when taking on multiple enemies. Otherwise you'll find yourself trading kills.
- Use the sidearm/shotgun. If you have a shotgun, pull it out whenever you go into buildings or close quarters. If you have a sidearm, use it instead of reloading.
- Don't reload after every kill. Too often I see people die because they feel the need to reload after one kill, even though they have over half a magazine left.
- Did anyone else not know there was boost on the predator missile? I just found this out about a week ago.
- Strafe while shooting. You have no idea how much harder it makes you to hit.
- Try not to sprint while in enemy territory or around corners, it takes too long to recover after sprinting and you'll be dead.
- Use ninja pro. Most of the people that put up huge scores consistently have headsets and can hear you from a mile away. You'll have no chance.
- For long range kills, don't be afraid to burst fire, even with an automatic weapon. The recoil on the TAR (for example) can be too much to handle for very long kills, so tap the trigger a few times to avoid the recoil.
- Flashes and Stuns should be used very often to clear open areas for you to run through.
- If you're sniping, you shouldn't use the zoom too often, only to get a kill. Stay unscoped in order to gain a larger view or your surroundings, then zoom only when going for a kill.

Very good stuff. ESP flashes and stuns...use them like they give you AIDS if you hold them too long...
Also, whenever you see a group of red dots on the radar and you know the level well, just toss up semtex towards them...I cannot tell you how many kills I have with semtex...TBH I get at leat 5 kills per map by blindly tossing them around.

sportfan gave some great tips, some of which I was gonna post myself. Ill say the strafing tip is probably the most important basic tip if you're going to use an assault rifle.
I'll add -- and some are basic, but not everyone knows:
Sentry guns, despite not counting toward your streak, can be devastating when used right. Always place them at a high ground whenever possible, or at a choke point without a rear entry from the other team so that they can't be easily stabbed. Great locations are the chopper on high rise, atop the rocks near the small hallways on quarry (overlooking B), in front of the big house on Estate and damn near anywhere inside on skid row once you establish a spawn point.
-Also, the sentry picks up thermal heat a la the predator etc. A GREAT trick I just learned is top pop smoke in front of a high traffic area then drop the sentry. Other team can't see it, but your sentry will go to town through the smoke. In front of the house on estate is where this ting goes ape ****.
Make note of spawn points in this game when you respawn. Once you get familiar youll be able to get the jump on enemies with pre-nades, scopes and such.
Claymores are your friend. Don't be afraid to use them with any class. You will see guaranteed 4+ more kills on most maps when using them once you learn common entry ways. As mentioned, claymore plus scavenger is beastly. Also, claymores have an outward blast radius. Consider this when placing it by a door. A lot of times you get that hit marker b/c it was set without an angle. So when placing it inside a door or at the end of a bridge etc., aim it slightly away from the entry way should increase your success by at least 50 percent. A cool place to put them is right at the top of the escalators in terminal, in the middle, facing the escalators. It should kill someone regardless of the escalator on which the came in.
If you're gonna be aggressive, consider a silencer almost always. The UAV was up all the time in COD4 but nobody uses it anymore (rarely). The silencer will keep you off the HUD and could mean that extra kill or 2 for your streak so that you aren't spotted.
UMP and the WA2000 typically don't need stopping power. Consider another class like hardline or cold blooded when using them.
Don't be afraid to use the pistol as your sidearm. The swap out almost a second quicker than the machine pistols, which is great for CQC.
Swap to your side arm in a one on one battle instead of reloading ---- ALWAYS.
When sniping, consider holding the scope in place for an extra second after a kill or aiming it skyward immediately so they cant see your position in a kill cam (this is for campy sniping, not tactical).
In the bigger, non-linear maps work around the edges in a circle to avoid getting picked off. Or do a semi circle one way, and another semi back the other way -- repeatedly.
In domination you wont always hear that your flag is being capped when two are being capped at once. If the flag icon is flashing, someone is on it. Same goes for Headquarters.
When using C4, double tap X on XBOX and square on PS3 for immediate detonation. A little tip on domination is to place on on the flag and leave the area. When you hear or see it is getting capped, double tap the button and possibly get a surprising multi kill.

when you say boost, are you talking about the R1?
and when you say zoom... you do me just the ADS right? there isnt some additional zoom i dont know about is there?
Also on the predator missiles, you can actually get them almost horizontal to go through building entrances. I've done this countless times in Derail and Afghan and took out 3-4 guys at once. Instead of hitting R1 to boost the missile, you hold R2 or L2 and it slows it down so you can be more precise with it.
now that i didnt know.

here is the advice from a bum...
cant agree more about claymores. if you are like me, in which you suck at tossing grenades, then use claymores and just put them inside popular doorways. even if you dont camp, you have no idea how many times i have been running around and a random +50 or +100 pops up on my screen. and i have gotten a LOT of paybacks and after lifes off of them too. the claymore stays there for about as long as the kill cam does. and if you do camp... they are a must. if you have one man army and claymores, you can find a hard to get you out of camp spot and stay in there all day.
stay out of groups. ESPECIALLY to start the second half of objective based matches. that is a predator missile waiting to happen.
i also am a fan of sentry guns. but i play a lot of objective game modes. it may not be as useful in TDM. but for CTF, domination or sabotage, it can be beasty. and lets not forget it can be moved also. put it one place, let it mow down 4-5 people and then move it to another spot they might not expect.
ACOGs and Thermals have TERRIBLE aim down site times. if you are going to use one of these guns, use it only on the long distance weapons and/or use Sleight of Hand Pro.
thats all for now, lol.

No it doesn't it only counts towards the kill streak in the same life that you earn it in. (So you get a 5 kill streak get your sentry gun but haven't set it yet then you die when you respawn and set your sentry gun up it will not count towards your kill streak.)

no it doesn't count in that situation because you died. when you call it in it will get you kills but will not go towards any new kill streak so if you got 5 with it you would not get the sentry gun.
you have to use it in the same life as you earned it for it to count towards your kill streak.

Question 1
Anyone have any tips for being more ninja like while you navigate the maps.
After getting the M16 I've been doing fairly well with piling up kills
But my issues have been the following:
* Certain maps I just don't know that well so I end up running out in the open where I get destroyed almost instantly (Rundown)
* When I take out a few guys in a row, my adrenaline gets going and I turn into Rambo/Chuck Norris and begin to run through the board like noone can stop me. Shortly after I change into unstoppable beast mode, my head gets blown off and I realize I'm only Austin Powers.
So I guess, I need to get my MW2 emotions under control and learn the maps better. Maybe be going into a private thing and running around them.
I get annoyed at guys sitting in buidings the entire match. What's the fun in that?
So if one of those guys kills me, I get frustrated, respawn and immediately try to run back to where he is. This tactic is usually a fail - as someone else kills me or even worse the same dude just kills me again. :p
I guess Patience is a big deal in this.
Any other tips for being more stealthy? I had on Cold Blooded Pro and Ninja Pro and did pretty well.
Question 2
What's the idea behind using the grenade launcher? When I use it, I don't get the one hit kills like other people. I tried aiming for the wall and I got a piece of a dude because I got the assist. One time I hit him directly, and the grenade absorbed into the dude's body like he was Blob from XMen.
Question 3
I unlocked One Man Army last night but haven't used it yet.
Let's say I have 2 classes set up.
Class 1
M16 + Grenade Launcher
Perk 1 - One man Army
Perk 2 - Cold Blooded Pro
Perk 3 - Ninja Pro
Class 2
M16 + silencer
Perk 1 - Marathon Pro
Perk 2 - Cold Blooded Pro
Perk 3 - Ninja Pro
I choose Class 1. When you switch classes do the perks switch as well? So if I start with Class 1, and switch to Class 2, I'll still have Marathon Pro, but I'll also still be able to switch to another class whenever I want?

The more you play the maps the more you'll learn the spots people like to camp and/or hang around. Do you have one of your killstreaks set to UAV? That might help you out. Also, jumping into a private match would certainly help you with learning maps. If you want I'll jump into a private match with you and show you a few things for each map.
- The m16 with Stopping Power is a 1 burst kill - so consider that when using the m16. Personally, I don't like the silencer on the m16 because it takes 2 bursts to kill someone. If you prefer to use it, you may want to try Slight of Hand because you'll be able to acquire your target faster.
- When switching classes and using One Man Army if you do not have One Man Army set up in the class you are switching to, you will not be able to switch back.
- The grenade launcher is a mid range weapon so it needs at least 10 yards or so for it to explode. You can still kill your opponents if you directly hit them with the grenade though.
These are a few classes that I like with the m16 (that go along with your stealth theme). The m16 is great mid range and long range...in close combat you'll probably want to switch to your secondary :
m16 holographic, secondary : pp2000 silenced
slight of hand
stopping power
ninja
--
m16 holographic (or use the Iron Sight and use Scavenger for Perk 1) + grenade launcher, secondary : pp2000 silenced + RDS
bling
stopping power
ninja
I know you like to use Cold Blooded so stick to what works for you. I like to have a class set up with Cold Blooded and a Stinger as a secondary so I can switch to it if I need to shoot down Harriers, Choppers, etc.

Mainly what mofo said, but I would add if you use cold blooded and it's not to shoot down aircraft. You would want a silencer on your gun because if you don't you will still show up on the map when you fire and that would negate the cold blooded perk.

To clarify :
Counts Towards Killstreaks:
+ Predator Missile
+ Sentry Gun *
+ Precision Airstrike
+ Harrier Strike
+ Attack Helicopter
+ Pave Low
+ Stealth Bomber
+ Chopper Gunner
+ AC-130
Doesn't Count Towards Killstreaks:
- UAV
- Counter-UAV
- Care Package **
- Emergency Airdrop **
- EMP
* Sentry Guns count towards Killstreaks even if they are acquired from a Care Package or Emergency Airdrop
** Nothing but a Sentry Gun will count towards Killstreaks from these.

Stay unscoped in order to gain a larger view or your surroundings, then zoom only when going for a kill.
what do you mean they can hear you? i dont have a headset

Sentry gun as a killstreak does count toward your overall killstreak, but Sentry gun from the killstreak care package or emergency air drop does not.
All sentry guns are received through a care package. whether its a mystery or not it still comes in a care package. this is because it's not an item not something you can call in (AC130, Hellicopter, Blimp Hellicopter, ect...)

Correct....I forgot to edit that post. You can see above that I clarified what I meant.

To clarify :
Counts Towards Killstreaks:
+ Predator Missile
+ Sentry Gun *
+ Precision Airstrike
+ Harrier Strike
+ Attack Helicopter
+ Pave Low
+ Stealth Bomber
+ Chopper Gunner
+ AC-130
Doesn't Count Towards Killstreaks:
- UAV
- Counter-UAV
- Care Package **
- Emergency Airdrop **
- EMP
* Sentry Guns count towards Killstreaks even if they are acquired from a Care Package or Emergency Airdrop
** Nothing but a Sentry Gun will count towards Killstreaks from these.
Does the pavelow really add to killstreak? I never actually thought it did, so I didn't use it often. Otherwise it's a monster, I'd say its comparable with the chopper gunner.

I had read that Pavelow's count toward your killstreak around 50/50...but it always seems to work for me, so I'm not sure if they fixed it or I've just been lucky.

Ok as I said in the other thread, I'm improving to the point where I get a solid # of kills, but I die just about at the same rate.
Other than not running into the middle of the map, is there anything I can do to avoid being shot by someone who sees me, when I don't see them?
If I meet up with someone and its a standoff and he beats me - that's fine. But I get the most frustrated when I get bucked in the back because I ran across someone's view, who wasn't even looking for me..giving them an easy kill.

I didn't see it mentioned, so here's a tip for anyone that hasn't thought of it : Have a class with One Man Army Pro and a class with Danger Close Pro. When you call in your Air Support be sure to switch to your class with Danger Close Pro. You can really rack up the kills a whole lot quicker.
