O.K....V.G. Experts (you know who you are :) )...I'm looking at starting to create a system in which my base offense will be the SG 5-Wide formation...now I have some plays that I'm comfortable with and know the reads to look for, but I was woundering if anybody had plays they liked from this set (and the reads that go with them) that they would like to share (I know some people don't want to give out secrets, so this is only if you want to ;) )....

...I don't know if this will work because if my QB gets off to a rocky start I will have to stop throwing the ball....I also down shift to other formations to run the ball...kind of like Utah, but can't quite create the same type of motion....

...Plus what kind of O-Line best suits a passing team? AWR? STR? Size?....

...Just a power spread guy looking to open it up......

U know how I roll Air, but I have yet to use the no-back version of the 5 wide.

But what I would suggest is to come out if u could in the spread and audible to the 5 wide. That will give u ur running back as a receiver. He is normally faster then the 5th receiver for the most part.

I don't use the SG 5-Wide set because I don't carry that many recievers but it looks like most of the routes are the same as the SG Trips formation with another receiver instead of the HB out of the backfield so I would think that most of the route combo's out of the trips set would work with the 5-WR set.

When I ran my Shotgun offense the only lineman that I cared about was my center, I just wanted a guy with high awr so I didn't get a ton of high snaps.

I don't get that many, but when I do. It is always out of the hb direct. But that is a good attribute to look for....

Air,

2k5 has truly frustrated my ability to have a GREAT no back attack. 2k4 had better bubble screens and better qb draws. Throw in the psychic dbs, tackling refs, dbs that sit over any route to the outside, drop passes but the ability to hit the deep pass over the middle when the receivers are catching it at will, just add to that frustration.

Now I will grant that I've pretty much tried to use no back with Montana and FAMU in dynasty mode, still I've set them up in JV level.

What has worked for me down at JV with low level teams though is the Noback with the Stacked receivers (sorry can't remember the name) and I do love to motion the outside guy on the tripside back inside to get a true stacked look and release... has a lot of good crossing routes, a decent type bubble screen (arrow I think its called which also can make a good double slant pass) the draw play works pretty well, and I love motioning the weakside receiver to create a Quad formation with a lone single receiver on a db. I can get some pretty good meshing routes to the quad side that make that a great threat.

Obviously I still like the SG 5wide double screen, but really like Awn suggested I put a RB in the inside slot and motion him in out of my other shotgun formations.. there aren't too many other routes that I really like in SG 5 wide.

There is a formation that attacks the safeties in the No back. It is one where the outside receivers do down and outs, and the two slot receivers go down field... I have found the greatest success going after the safeties... I would suggess this play....

Its a killer!!!!

..Hey thanks COG & AWN!...I have scrapped the "SG 5-wide as my base offense idea"...I tried it out last night and found myself running my normal power spread stuff by the 2nd qrt...the routes in SG 5-wide just don't develope well and they take to long  .....No back however I have had success with before and I'm trying to use Baylor's playbook which has the No-back in it so I will have to start using it more......I run all the quick hitters during the course of the game, but I will have to try the play AWN is talking about to see if I can stretch the field from this formation....I will also try the motioning you are talking about COG......do any of the screens from this formation work well? and against what D's?....I REALLY wish there was more of a screen game this year...

...Thanks again for the help guys...I'm just trying to add more wrinkles to the passing game....just so I have it when I need it ;)

as teh base formation and then run plays from there. I believe that in the SG trips, the HB can go to either side of the Formation creating a 4 on 1 side or the more balanced 2 and 3 split. I have actually gone all game in this formation, just calling the SG clearout play. If you have a good running QB the sky is the limit. I will normally use Virginia and Hagans is speedy and can throw. I used it with Tenn freshman Qb last night and killed and also will sub in for Ohio state, Miami, Georgia. Texas and LSU alreday have teh running QB. The more popular SG Bunch clearout can only go to 1 side to create the 3-2 balance. As well in the SG Trips, you can motion the inside wr to the single reciver side then audible to the SG spread while the player is in motion and the opponent will have to pick up on the switch. If showing one thing then doing something else works in the D side of teh ball, you should also do it on the O side of teh ball.
