I tried experimenting with claymores today. I thought it would be fun getting a lot of kills from these things, but am very disappointed. Is there a trick? I see guys run right through them, and I saw a guy trip one but it didn't kill him. Whats the deal?

Angle the way that you lay them down. When you see yourself lay them down just know that the infrared sensor is facing towards you. At 2 different angles

---------/---------\
--------/-----------\

[You want guys to run across them here in front]

I used to put them down any way thinking that guys would set them off - but I was setting them up backwards

Lastly, just know that guys will still run through them sometimes. It's one of the most annyoing things in this game.

The best tip I got was that they have an outward radius beyond the red lines that you see. So you want to angle them in a way that faces where they will be AFTER they trip it. So for example, you lay it inside a door. A lot of people place it so the infrared is completely paralel with the door, which works in hardcore but not so much in regular. Set it parallel but with the lasers facing slightly away from the door so when they run through the entrance the blast is directed at where they are a split second AFTER the clicking sound.

another good tip is to put them places that "mask" the red lines. in high grass, in bushes, behind a box or something like that.

also, putting them in places that offer little reaction time, like right as you turn a corner, or in a narrow area. places that are less forgiving

Yup. Dead bodies work too.
