Any suggestions on stopping the pump fake deep ball. Ran into someone who does is every play. They would hot route the outside receivers to a go and have the every one else block. Then pump fake until some one bit. Tried a number of blitzes to apply presure but had limited sucess. Also, tried cover 2 and 3.

Thanks!

I find that when u r in zone, u r more vulnerable to the pump fake. The only way to stop the pump fake's effectiveness is to b in man coverage, and apply manual pressure to the QB. If u can get to him b4 he can set up again on a continuous basis. He will have to slow down with the pump faking....

I noticed that it's usually the guys with low composure who usually bite. So if one of your DB's or LB's have low or even a lack of composure, you might want to manually control him.

play cover 2 man or something with a combination of zone and man. Pressure is very important since the pump fake takes time. If you are in man, control whomever is responsible for the HB or FB, usually a LB, and blitz from the edge. I would play bump and run too. If he does it every time I would blitz relentlessly from zone looks then switch to combination looks when you get him to second or third and long. I like blitzing with corners too, they get there quick and force him to hurry his throws which will lead to incompletions and picks. Especially if he throws deep a lot.

Thanks for the good info. I was playing too much zone and cover 2 man (while susceptible to other things) worked well.

unfortunately, most man coverages are suseptable to ins and outs. Try LB spy plays once in a while if he is catching you on ins or slants. If he is good at it he will work around it though. If you mix lots of blitzes and coverages you should be able to confuse him. I think the defenses have an advantage over the offenses in this game. Lots of pressure is important.

If pump faking before the deep ball is your problem, I can't imagine that blitzing two LBs with everyone else in man coverage won't solve it. I only wish people would pump fake on me more often. My blitzin LB doesn't care if it's a fake or not, he just wants to nail the QB.
