So a few weeks ago, Mrs Cog was begging me for gift ideas that she could pass along to the inlaws. After saying the usual:

1. Spending time with people I love is gift enough for me

2. black tube socks

I said and I almost winced when I did it... "I don't know I guess they could get me some new video games".

Well fast forward to Sunday, and I get exactly what I ask for..
Time with the inlaws, black tube socks and not 1 but 2 video games.

You guessed it, NCAA FOOTBALL 11 and COD: Black Ops:)

After smilling and saying thank you politely, I chuckled on the inside thinking of that poll H posted a while back and my answer.

Well I haven't even opened COD yet. But I have played a few games of NCAA.
Pleasant suprise: The playbooks while not perfect are better then I imagined. I'm enjoying triple option football again and its been a long time since I played triple option football.

To be expected, the game play isn't right. a fair amount of p-poor programing, AI overcompensating or out right cheating. I love when I call an OPTION PASS ROUTE and the DEFENDER runs it for me and picks me off...Good God EA that is something of beauty.

A new thing that I tried while we stayed at the inlaws...Online play...OMG what a CHEESE fest, I mean I totally expected it but to see it real life in person..how does anyone play online against people they do not know.
QB scrambles to the sideline, throws dead nuts accros the field to a WIDE open receiver running the opposite direction WTF, I can't tell you how many times I saw that SH*TE. I took my lumps, but i did manage to play one guy who played me straight and a 13 yo who also probably got the game for christmas and I won both using good ol fashioned strategy.

Long Story short, while parts of it definately do suck, for now for now I'm enjoying playing Air Force,Hawaii and SMU instead of the Berlin Thunder.

The playbooks are better, with some real plays on there, kudos to ea for actually get a working fly sweep in there.

I've only had it a few days, and there are some obvious flaws that they need to work on, but I like it better then I though I would.

Don't get me wrong though, this is where I thought we would be 8 years ago when they went NG. Its still GD frustrating to see bone headed logic, mascot games, and no play editor or even CUSTOM Playbooks.

Hahaha, now that's funny. Awesome though. I agree with you for the most part. You can tell the effort is there with the playbooks, but the execution is soooo lacking. I also like how they've tuned the running game.

Online has been a joke for YEARS. I don't even play online much anymore. Nowhere near as much as I use to back in the heyday when I played over 500 online games a year. Just isn't the same. Not to mention, playing the same old idiodic play styles (and teams) gets boring. Things that "should" be easy to stop, aren't (ex: goaline or any power heavy run set should DESTROY Dime or Quarters defenses, yet we STILL have issues getting yardarge).

I know you saw the new write up I have in the offensive section. Give that offense a shot. I think you'll have some fun with it.

NCAA is much improved since the last online update. It really helped balance the game.

You can't recruit like you use to, you can't fill up your board and hope to land players. Select 10 players that have you as their top team (I'd say at least top 5. You can do top 10 if you have the recruiting difficulty lower). Start with posistions you need to fill first, and then move on to those you wish to land.

Rank your recruits 1-10. Don't offer scholerships unless they have you as their number 1 school, or if you're down significantly in points. Oh yeah, pay attention to how many points you're down. If you're more than 500 points down, forget it.

Once you land a recruit, immediately recruit another player. Focus your first 10 picks on players you need and 5 stars. After that, 4 stars, then after that 3. Use the search feature. It helps out a lot.
