My base defense is the 4-3. I run "Cover 2 Man" or "Cover 2" most of the time. I also like to blitz with "Monster green" or some type of zone blitz. I was wondering if anyone would share their base defenses and schemes and tell me why they work. I am looking to switch to another defense and would like some pointers. Thank you very much...happy holidays :D

I use basically the 3-3-5 zone blitz. I manually blitz the safety on the right side of the formation. I normally flip the formation also. In its normal setting, the other safety runs into the line.. EA!!!!!!

i bet im the only 1 who has masterd the man D for 05. i run man about 90% of the time, and it works great for me. Then i switch to zone D vs Sg spread and get beat if my Lb doesnt get threw and i run zone in the redzone, but i like to stick to man D.

Do you guys only bump in Man coverage? I've noticed that you're more likely to get beat if you bump in Zone, but I hate tipping my hat every time, too.

I mix up my gameplan I feel adjustments are what make a player better than his opponnent so im never "stuck" in a gameplan. I bump with man the majority but ive found some zones where you can slow the route just enough to throw off timing and the pass becomes an easy pick especially against a lobber.

3-3-5 zone blitz, 4-2-5 middle blitz, Nickle Crash 3, and 3-3-5 and 4-2-5 double spys are my base Ds......but I mix it up a lot and don't really hang my hat on just one D....

experienced players can tell the difference in man and zone without you showing bump
i'm starting to play nickle a lot as a base defense and throwing in some 3-3-5 and 4-2-5 oh and some 3-4

I use the nickel as my base most of the time, except on 3rd and long when I switch to dime. I usually play cover 2 or man, about 50-50. In the red zone, I play a lot of 4-4 cover 3, especially from about the 12 to the 5, then inside the 5 I switch to 5-2, and I don't go goalline until they are on the 1.

Hey Craw any tips on the man to man D. I seldom use it because I usually get completely torched against buddies and the CPU. I normally play the LB that is assigned to the running back and I manually blitz him. I know that when I see man to man coverage on O that I am really happy. The crossing routes usually eat man to man alive.

there's no point to running a man to man d if you aren't tryin to get pressure. you're just asking to get burned.
bump your db's and try to get pressure. try labbing the same defensive play over and over again, (blitz play) and adjust your dline and lb's. keep labbing until you can constatly get pressure.
the oline tends to block from the inside out, so if your looking to blitz from the outside, spread your dline to occupy the OT's. your DT will occupy the OG's leaving the center to find someone to block.
of course, the key to beating this blitz from the outside is to step up in the pocket, but that's just one example
see what you can come up with, and i hope this helps

thanks for the tips. I do blitz a lot. I have pretty good success against the human but against the cpu, it just seems like my guys get sucked it the O-line like a vacuum. I play on heisman and the sliders are maxed out for the cpu. I'm sure that this has something to do with it.
Also, could someone explain the "spy" to me. I run 3-3-5 double FS against FSU in my dynasty because they have QB that has 88 speed. He kills me with the run. So, I tried the 3-3-5 with minimal success. I normally control the spy that I think he may run at. Of course he runs the other way and boom 10-20 yards later, he's down the field because the other spy goes crashing into the inside of the line of scrimmage. What a load of crap. I thought the spy is supposed to kind of move with the QB.

..In real life a spy should only focus on the man he is spying (normally the QB)...but EA screws more things up then they should and that is one of them...however, out of 3-3-5 double spy I like to control one of the spys (normally on the playside) and blitz right at the QB...if he goes the other way I switch to the other spy real quick and then control him to take down the QB....it helps to have high AWR guys....you might also want to try 3-3-5 SS dogs which has both SS blitz....but watch out if you miss the tackle in the backfield.....

you must understand why the defenses are called what they are
4-3 - 3 down linemen, 3 LB's
3-4 - 3 down linemen, 4 LB's
3-3-5 - 3 down linemen, 3 LB's, 5 DB's (with 2 safeties)
4-2-5 - 4 down linemen, 2 LB's, 5 DB's (with 2 safeties)
5-2 - 5 down linemen, 2 LB's
personally, i like to mix the 3-3-5 and the 4-2-5. seems like more people are scared of the 4-2-5 than the 3-3-5.
you may even want to do a search on the "30 Stack" D that a lot of us use to use last year (variation of the 3-4)

thanks for the help. Attacking the Qb is a 50/50 prop for me. I bet most of my problems are due to playing on heisman and the settings that I have chosen. I don't have 1/2 the problem vs. a human. Thanks again.

When u called a 3-4 defense. Shift the line backers and bring down a safety. That is the stack. It is called the stack bcause the Linebackers r line up behind the dfensive linemen. Preventing the offensive linemen from getting easy access to the second level of defenders.
There r times when I will still use the stack. But the 3-3-5 is my favorite formation.
