View Full Version : How do you stop WR direct

When combined with a fast QB?
I just played this guy who had OK State, and when I went Punt Safe to keep him from doing the WR direct, he'd just scramble on me.
I tried putting a fast OLB, and then later a SS in at DT, and then spying on him manually, but it didn't really work.
Here, this gives you an idea of what it works like:

-U sub the faster man at end. Take that end off the line, and shift the line to his side. U have the end patrolling the middle, not the DT.
-U have to keep the angle on him, u don't run directly at a faster man. U must run on a slant and try to meet him at some point.
The guy u were plying is a scrub first of all. To go through all of that to just win a game is pathetic. Second of all, once u stop his tactics, he probably will not b able to ply legit. U have to make sure u out score a cheater. Some times it comes down to weathering the storm, and getting the W....

Yeah, the problem with all of that, is then this motherf*cker would just go I form, or even goal line and start running it up the middle on me.
Like I said, I tried subbing out a DT, and put a SS in the game, and then trying to spy him manually, but he was running these zag in routes, and I kept getting tangled up with the DB/WR, which worked like a pick play.
Plus, when I have La Tech, even my "fast" players aren't that much faster than the QB, especially when he subs his starting HB, or CB in the game at QB.
EDIT: BTW, I won the damn game in OT, after scoring a TD as time ran out to tie it up. I scored first, and then he went for 2 and didn't get it.
But this guy honestly wasn't that good. Terrible is probably a more accurate description. I was just wondering, because if he had any skills at all, he probably would have worked me.

First off...............i dont play online, and im on XBOX so this may not work for you PS2 guys that are online ballers. BUT.........last night i was labbing with this whole "WR Direct" fiasco that everyone seems to hate and may have stumbled upon a way to put it to bed so i thought i would tell you guys about it so you could test my theory. I was messin around in "play now" (using hawaii) and tried to run the direct snap...........and it wouldnt work. Being a person that knows how to do it (but thinks its the most ridiculous play in the game) i began to get aggravated and started to think my new wireless controller had lag time in that i couldnt do what i needed to do quick enough (you guys know what i mean). Then it clicked, i had homefield advantage turned off. With HFA off there is no delay when you call audibles therefore the "main step" wont happen because the QB doesnt take up more time calling the play. So, i turned turned HFA on and sure enough, it worked then. This could be the find of the century or just a fluke but i thought i would pass along my findings so you guys could test this on PS2 and online. Im anxious to know if turning it off makes a difference for you.

HFA has to be on for an online game to be "ranked", or to count for anything.

I've never played anyone who used the wr direct and was wondering how is it ran. What formation is it under and what are the steps of pulling it off? Is the best defense to stopping the wr direct a special teams formation?

can't really tell you that one. not going to give out glitch info. if you search though, you'll learn how. eventually you'll run into it online. punt safe is the best defense for the 5 wide one, but in all actuallity, it can be run from any formation even goaline.
