missing Ole Nebraska Offense

somebody get Callahan out of there. In general, I miss watching the old Nebraska offense play, and I am not a fan. Just unusual for me to see Nebraska in more one back sets, than running the option.

Yep, look for Ohio U to utilize much of the old Nebraska offense. It'll be interesting to see if the Bobcats can keep up offensively with the many spread offenses in the MAC.

The old Nebraska Offense left when Dr. Tom left. Solich had the playbook but could never execute it. Tom Osborne was an offensive genius. When he was the offensive cordinator at Nebraska in the late 60's and early 70's Nebraska actually ran more of a pro style offense with some option. When Dr. Tom became the head coach he had a 6 game loosing streak against Oklahoma (who at the time ran the triple option out of the wishbone). That's when Dr. Tom tweaked his offense (If you cant beat'em join'em). The 1983 Nebraska offense might of been the greatest collegiate offense ever (in terms of a combination of talent and play-calling). There's probably been more talented offenses (2005 USC looks scary) and better coached offenses (1995 Nebraska comes to mind) but in my opinion (if that matters) there's never been a better combination of the both in modern day college football. In other words Ohio U doesn't have the talent and Coach Solich isn't an Offensive genius (I belive he got smart and hired an offensive cordinator at Ohio). The closest thing to an old Nebraska style offense (without much triple option) would be either Kansas st with an athletic QB, or Iowa st (Barney Cotton played at Nebraska and was Solich's first and only offensive cordinator at Nebraska during his final season at the helm). By the way Coach Cotton is the offensive cordinator at Iowa st. Both of those two teams are well coached and run the type of Offense that Tom Osborne's evolving offense would of probably developed into.

..I don't claim to follow Nebraska....but don't forget that Solitch did produce a hiesmen trophy winner in Eric Crouch and they did play for the National Championship (even though they got punished)....He took WAY too much blame for one bad year at Nebraska.....I bet a lot of people wish he was still around after that drumming by Texas Tech last season....no one will ever fill the shoes of Osborne at Nebraska....

I thought it was freakin hilarious when Barnett called a couple option plays in the CU/nu game last year. They didn't even go for much, but it was more of a slap in the face to Callahan, like saying "See? It's not that hard to draw up an option or two, ya stubborn a-hole!"
