View Full Version : Make running easier!

I play in a 32 team league. We play all our games on default Ranked mode. We usually play with B teams, but this past season, we made every team available. After an 11 game season with the best teams on the game, the leading rusher in our league (J. Allen of Maryland) had a measly 753 yards. There were just 2 or 3 other guys who cracked 700 yards, including Brad Smith. Isn't there something wrong with that picture? College football was built on the running game. I know that the game has evolved since the Wishbone heyday of the 60s & 70s, but there are still plenty of teams that rely heavily on the run. Now obviously, not everyone in the league looks to run 1st pass 2nd, but there is no good reason why at least one coach out of 32 couldn't get a 1000 yard season.
Not sure what the best solution is. A lot of people have complained about the blocking assignments on offense. A few more broken tackles would be nice too, especially if it's a 180 lb CB trying to take down a 220 lb RB.

Wow, that's hard to imagine. Not ONE guy got 1,000? Sounds like a lot of bombers! How long are the quarters?

the problem is guys that are engaged in blocking coming off blocks to make the tackle
i've even ran off my blockers shoulder (say he turns his man inside, so i run outside) and the d lineman will still make the tackle. also, there's a problem against dime and nickle (just like madden). if the d lines up in dime and i'm in i form normal, it should be run city, but o linemen miss blocks get pushed back and all kinds of crap

default Ranked mode=5 min quarters
I realize to get stats comparable to real football, we'd need to play 7-9 min quarters, but 1000 yards in 11 games shouldn't be that hard to do with a good HB. It has a lot to do with what Djwill said. D linemen can somehow magically disengage from their blocks and make tackles.
I played a game of 2004 online tonight, just for sh¡ts & giggles, and I broke off a 30 or 40 yard run on a basic I form counter play. That never happens on this game. It's almost impossible to simply outrun the defense to the corner. You have to pull off some amazing juke move just to get more than 5 or 6 yards.
I'm starting to see why people say that 2004 was a better game.

no not better just easier..see in 05 u have to pull off some tricky jukes to get the yards and on 04 u just need to run. Thats y i like 05 bc its all user related. I think the running is sick on this game, thats if u kno how to use the run vs certain D setups.

That I run the hb direct. U need more time to c what the defense is running. U have more time to set up ur blocks. I normally run toward the line to bring in the defense and then hit is outside. Like what they do with qbs. U move toward the line to suck in the defense, and then back away to give u more time. That is the same with running the ball. I run toward the line regular speed, and then turn it to the outside. Also u must remember not to speed burst. If u speed burst then the cpu with react quicker also...

today i playd and had 4 60+ rushes... 2 option keepers and 2 pitches all went for Tds!!! On the keepers i just juked 2 maybe 3 guys and i was gone. So its possible to get big rushes

I do have a problem with the blocking assignments...they are all screwed up...and I don't like the fact that some plays NEVER work (Like the WR end-arounds and reverses out of Ace Formations)....but I haven't had a problem running the ball this year....200 rushing yards a game is about the norm for me.....

i've got a little trick that works great for running the ball outta i form. all i'm gonna say is motion is the key to everything.
i'm averaging about 110 ypg online (5 min quarters). that's just enough to establish the run to get my opponent thinkin about it. i'm averaging about 230 ypg passing.
those numbers really aren't balanced though because about 20 games ago or so i really started running the ball more.

I'm not complaining about the option. I've gotten some big gains with that myself (although mostly on keepers, since people tend to over-defend the pitch). I'm just talking about basic dives, isos, off-tackles, and counters. These are plays that are bread & butter for a lot of real-life teams, but they can get blown up but Nickel & Dime coverages on this game. What annoys me is puny little DBs knocking my FB or power HB on his a$$. I don't care if you're blitzing your CB off the corner, he should get run right the f--k over 80-90% of the time.
Also, draws seem to be pretty worthless too. If the D is going to bite on the play-action pass and pump fake, shouldn't they bite on draw plays too? It seems like the draw plays only fool the human opponent and even that's just for a second.
