3-4 Engage 8, bring the safeties down pinch the line, you can playmaker the corners to play contain, playmaker the safties to blitz pinch the dl and Lb's

I use 4-6 Cover 2, but it's not really a "Shut Down" run D. It still gets run on sometimes.
Goaline Jam Cover 1 is good too.

Goal Line Corner Blitz w/ man lock off, so the corners stay out.
Pinch the line

Goal Line Jam Middle. Pinck the LB's, Blitz both corners and playmaker DE to QB spy. Sometine you will get the QB before the handoff or toss. Works great.

Beware of blitzing everyone inside because a toss play will work 95% of the time... The CB blitz like what Capn describes works well against the inside and outside run, although running off tackle will beat it if they pinch the line. For me, I don't have a specific play... I call a GL formation and then I try and guess what my opponent is doing and pick a play accordingly.... just like a chess match.

not to get off subject, but what about when someone is running goal line as a base offense. for instance out on the 50?

I'll usually run out of the 4-6 if that's case

Haven't run into that too much. But at first I would probably match it with goal line on my end.

4-6 is cool like Apostile said, but I have come to realize that you alost have to go goaline against goaline. Jam Cover 1 is a good base D. The corner blitz with man lock off is also good to stop runs to the outside.

lol. I've come to realize that there is no sure thing with goaline, either on O or on D. Both depend completly on whether the line does their job or not.

Depends on my opponent... Usually (unless I've done somethign really boneheaded), by the time his offense has gotten inside the 10, I've seen quite a few of his plays, have a good grip on his tendencies, and will be able to force a turnover or a field goal attempt.
My entire playbook is still an option... All alignments, all personnel sets, with varied assignments. Each defense is created onthe fly EVERY PLAY.
If they line up tight, I line up tight so I can cover every gap, then I cover the middle with enough depth to take out pitches and sweeps. If the offense is spread, I may or may not spread out with them...
Usually I use Goal Line defenses because there are 1-on-1 matchups across the LOS on each ofensive lineman. Linebackers and safeties are usually free to roam.
But it ultimately depends on my opponent... I do whatever I think will stop HIM. And that is different for every opponent.
