HB Direct/Deep Lob

Say if your playing somebody who only runs these two plays. They will run the HB Direct and then the next play you go to prevent that play and then they run the deep lob. How would you guys stop this?

depends, if your skillful with the stick on d pursuing and takling/bighit/userstrip then you might can try 4-3 fire 2 and take control of the Lb on the HB side and hit him if he gets it. If not kill the qb. you can either get a sack or rush enough to make a bad throw. but they'll get some deep balls of regardless.


but of course i you do this you open up the short slants over the middle where the lbs left from.

I'd say yes 4-3 fire 2, spread the line and pinch the LBs. manually conrol the DE on the side that the RB is or the safety on that side, bring him up a little bit and control him

4-2-5 SS spy, move a DE out a click and AB him

4-4 cover 3, move the lb on the same side as the hb to the line, the next lb to him to the line also, but take control of him manually and cover his zone. don't go for the pick if they throw deep, either swat or user big hit (i prefer big hit)

hobbs, that won't work against awn lol. he'll run it towards the line and not to the outside

I shot him a message this morning to ask him about how he sets it up, and I figured since we play on completely different platforms he wouldn't have a problem divulging some of the info he has on the direct, but he hasn't gotten back to me so I'm guessing he wants to keep it to himself. As i stated to him I use it occassionally in a game, as a surprise more or less, and I wanted to find out if he motions guys out to open up the run side or brings another blocker over, or runs it just like it's set up. I personally will motion a blocker over to the side I'm running to pick up the blitz if I see the opponent controlling the LB or DE on that side, if he's coming from the opposite side and they are playing man I motion out to open up the hole.
Back to the topic, sorry I want on a tangent, I use a lot of 4-3 or 3-4 alignments, and if you take a 4-3 and move the line away from the TE's side of the field, and move the lb's towards the TE, and control a D-lineman, most of the times I get a guy for a loss or minimal gain, even on the direct, but i'm sure I haven't faced anyone of his caliber yet, but will soon I'm sure

i don't think awn's been on today cause i shot him a pm too earlier. he's normally good about getting back with you. i'll see if i can find the link though

he hit me while I was posting on this thread a couple of minutes ago. Thanks for the lead on the thread, I will check it out. As far as the play goes, when someone sees a shotgun set they automatically think you are going long or definitely going to throw, the direct just takes advantage of the defensive play calling of defending the pass and running right at a dropping defender. I can see where it must get ultra frustrating when you finally decide to stop the run, and your rear end is left out to dry on the deep ball, you might just want to yank your hair out for sure.

oh it's in my repetoire alright especially after seeing how frustrating it is to defend the way awn runs it. it makes people play honest. now if i can only learn to run more outta sg bunch and trips. i've finally started using the qb sprint, but i still need to work on the speed option. once i get those down it's all over lol (either that or 06 will be out lol)
