ok air raid, you enlightened us all on how to run it, but how the hell do you stop it consistantly? or do you just rely on the old "bend but don't break" method?
this guy and i were playing last night. we both used the power spread. his was different from mine though. used sg y trips and some other crazy formations (i forget, too tired to remember) but man, at the end of the game even he said he couldn't stop me. i admitted to not being able to stop him either (he won btw by like 6 in a shoot out)
would blitzing fromt he outside work? ala the 3-3-5 zone blitz?
thanks in advance

cant speak for 2006 yet..........
In 2005 the bend but not break is exactly what I always did against the power spread. Better to get nickel and dimed and hope to make a play than overcommit and give up 6 at a time per play IMO.
Sounds like in 2006 we might as well just figure on playing WAC ball
and forget about being able to dominate people defensively

I didnt run into that many people that could run it and be unstoppable and score everytime. I always got that lucky occasional fumble or interception. I liked to bring the blitz and try to force a bad throw, sack, or even jack the ball losse through the QB. Delayed BnR helped me alot also.

i'm not looking for cheese, i'm looking for real ways to stop it. besides, if you're playin someone who really knows what their doing, the delayed bump won't help you any against the run. it will only help them. i'll run the power spread run game all day against man

DJ I use bend dont brake rule, the real way to stop is to have good DT to provide 4 man rush and to have good OLB to blitz with. That is way the power spread doesnt work in the nfl anymore.

I was always under the impression that the 3-3-5 and the 4-2-5 were installed to help deal with the power spread because they allowed you to keep 6 in the box while still defending the pass fairly well.
I ususally use alot of zone blitzes against the power spread, especially of I'm running the 3-3-5. I prefer the 3-3-5 because it gives you the ability to flow against spread option game because you've got those 5 defenders off of the LOS. I really like that Crash 2 out of the 3-3-5, it's a charm if you've got fast guys comin off of the edge. I tend to stay away from the man-man blitzes, because a the DBs turning they're backs makes defending a solid option game a *****.
And there are a few NFL teams that still use bits and pieces of the power spread, before the Pats got Corey Dillon, they ran a ton of spread packages and just dinked and dunked people down the field.

Sorry Deej I didn't see this post until now??? (Where have I been??)...anyway the most trouble I have running this system is against someone who really knows what they are doing with the 3-3-5....because that is the best defense to bring pressure from outside while not sacrificing the middle or deep coverage....I have ways now of beating this too...but as a whole my eyes light up when I see anything other then 3-3-5....In general I like to use the bend but don't break approach because I figure that my opponent will get to ansy and make a mistake sooner or later and I will capitalize...this works well in 06 so far as well, as it seems that getting picks this year is a little easier....but an aggressive 3-3-5 (if you know what your doing and I'm not talking delayed bump because I eat that **** for lunch) works the best IMO.....

that's just it though man. i don't have trouble running the ball especially from 2 back slot, no matter what formation the d is in. i've even ran it succesfully against goaline. it seems the most logical explination is to try and stretch the field. make the qb or back run horizontally rather than vertically. it's just easier said than done. i've tried some of the 30 stack d against it and had varying results. let me know if you come up with something. man i'd love to just get one game with you. it'd be one for the ages. just to see if my reads are correct. maybe i will video tape myself and send it to you. would you break it down and tell me anything that might help me out?

..Oh I know...I can run my scheme against any D I see now...so I really don't know how to stop it cold....one of my buddies asked the same question last year...after beating him badly he asked.."OK so what do I need to do to stop you?" and I said "honestly?? I really don't know...I'm not sure how to stop myself"....
...As far as getting a game in I'm still hoping to be on-line by next month...I'm having my labtop built starting next weekend and I hope to have it by early August...if that happens I'll have internet by then...but I'm going through a friend of a friend to get a better deal so you know how those things go...

man, make sure i'm the first guy you play when you jump on lol. i'm dead serious too. i can't find a way to consistantly stop it. i can stop the options from under center, but from sg it's just plain sick (speed option that is)
