I must say the few online games I have played mostly the people I played ran 4-4 a majority of the game, JoePAs 4-4 defense is back in a big way.

Ya, the eagle base for me is the 4-4 Cover2Man, and I make adjustments from this.

Which one is better: The 4-4 or The 3-3-5?

depends on what you're trying to stop. i wouldn't suggest the 3-3-5 against i form normal, but i would use the 4-4 against it. i wouldn't suggest the 4-4 vs sg normal either, i'd use the 3-3-5. it's about matching personell and using your best players. you find what works best for you.

...with those defenses. Thing is, I'm PSU all the way as well and I've been totally dissapointed with how they rank some of their defensive personnel. First and foremost, Anwar Phillips (#1CB otherside of Zemaitis) is far better than the low 80s that they gave him. The guy (w/ Calvin Lowry #10 SS) had 4 picks last year being the CB most picked on thanks to Zemaitis and had a ton of deflections. Plus, if they're gonna make Ted Ginn a superstar playmaker already, than Dan Connor #40LB should be in the same boat as a soph.. He had 100 Tkls last year and he only cracked the starting line-up a few games into the season. I will admit though, even though he's our QB, Michael Robinson is no mid to upper 80s QB either.

we teach this defense to our kids as our base defense because most of the teams will play are smash mouth football, we see alot of Wing T, I Form, Wishbone, and Power I teams ( mostly alot of double tight teams), we play one team a year that has a base singleback offense.

Our base alignment has

1. The DEnds have there inside shoulder across from the O/T or Tight End, a nine technique against the TE, with a split end the DEnd with play an eight technique outside the OT
2. Weakside DT is in a two technique over the Guard
3. Strongside DT in a two technigue over the Guard
4. The SAM is the stong OLB he aligns TE side, behind the TE
5. The WILL aligns on the weakside, stacked behind the DEnd
6. The Lion and Ram are the inside backers
7. Lion Left
8. Ram right
9. The Lions and Ram are stacked behind the DT's
10. corners 3 yards outside No. 1 reciever, about 5-6 yards deep
11. safety is split 9-10 yards
12. DTs take the guards head up
13. DE's read the backfield , there main responsiblity is contain, if a pass developes rush outside in
14. LB's read there keys , Ram and LIon read Guard , QB, FB, Rams guard pulls for example he shoots the gaps to tackle ball carrier on a counter. Sam reads TE , guard and the nearest back, Will reads guard and closest back. LB's scrape, backside ILB has cutback responsibilities. Both OLBs flow to their side and trail against flow, dropping back to deep middle.
15. DB's drop to 1/4
