Ok, so I'm not used to giving up 30 points and 330 yards per game. I'm used to Madden, where I have learned what the key money plays are and the best ways to stop them (ie, corner routes). In this game, I have yet to figure out how to:

1) Stop the run with consistency.
2) Contain the option regularly.
3) Stop the deep lob.

I'm also noticing that when I call zone defenses that are SUPPOSED to take away the middle of the field, people are STILL able to hit those patterns effectively. What gives? Am I going to have to master manual coverage for this game just to play a decent defense? Or are there strategies and defenses that I am not getting? I am trying every formation, every play and getting generally bad results.

Any ideas?

well JPar, to be honest, every money play uses the same principles (pass plays). most have a short, dump off route, a streak, an in, and/or a post or another streak. you just have to learn the playbooks a little more to know what formations those plays are in. once you learn that, compare down and distance and you'll know what to expect.

do know that most people are going to pass over the middle against zone b/c the post is very effective this year, so you may need to manually cover that. if you know an obvious passing down is in store, you could call 3-3-5 FS spy (man cover 2 zone with the FS spying) and manually play the middle of the field with him. you could also hr one of you lb's to spy and manually play the middle of the field with him. best way to stop any pass, is pressure. come up with some defensive schemes to cause pressure. passes to the middle take time to develope.

containing the option is easier said than done. do know that in most big running formations, people look to go outside more than run up the middle. try man cover 2 defenses and bring down both your safeties and manually playing with one of them. just be sure to try and stretch the play as wide as you possibly can.

stopping the deep lob is also pretty hard. for me, every time i try to "user" pick a pass, the timing is always off. what i've found to be a lot more reliable is the old click on click off method (think madden 04). just click on the db, move him into the best possible posistion and click off. more often than not i get a better play on the ball than if i manually played it.

hope these tips help.
