So I'm ending my 5th season as Iowa's coach, getting a little tired of playing the same Big-10 (11) opponents...deciding on where I may want to go after the season. Narrowed it down to: FSU, Georgia, or Georgia Tech.

I was wondering how often the rest of ya'll change teams, or do you start a new dynasty? How many dynasty's do you run at once?

I also have a Texas Tech dynasty going, but I spend more time on Iowa right now.

I usually have one dynasty going at a time. Last year I made a user-created school, but this year I went with Rutgers. I had one dynasty in 2004 that I ran for 8 seasons, and I played with UCLA for 4 and then switched to Army to develop them.

In this year's game, after Rutgers's seniors graduated and the offense became a D+, I realized I would have had more fun with another job. But I love my Scarlet Knights, and I'll have fun turning them into a powerhouse. If I got them really good, I might switch to another project, though.

I finished over 40 complete dynasties in 05. Of those, I would say that 7 or 8 of them had me stay with one team all the way through. I know I played the Ducks straight through twice, my alma mater (a D3 school) several times, a created school in Alaska, and once all the way through with Montana.

The rest of my dynasties I changed coaching jobs somewhat frequently. I think my record was 8 different schools getting the NC in one career, which is not much of an achievement until you realize that I was simming virtually every game.

I would say that probably 70% of the dynasties I start don't get past year 6. I get bored with winning, or I get a new idea for something that requires that I restart. I just bailed on my Ducks dynasty in year 10 because I wanted to try something new... Hence the Temple Owls thread...

You "finished" a dynasty? I didn't even know that was possible! How many seasons did you play? What does it do when you get to the end?

Well, the Hawkeyes won back-to-back NCAA titles and Mathias Parker (my stud Heisman winning JR QB) was going to declare for the draft so I accepted a job offer with FSU.

Looking forward to hearing the war chant and playing some ACC teams.

Now I just need to find some players.....

Forty years and it's done... Just like in Madden you get 30...

I assume the difference is because people can coach longer in college than in the pros... As for what it does when you are done, it gives you a code that you can put in so that when you play online all your players get a +5 bonus on their speed...

I always thought that dynasty was 120 years. Do you play your dynasties and franchises as a job? It seems like you would have no time for other things.

I don't play online... That obviously saves me some time...

Plus, when I am on my 10th dynasty or so, there are large parts of it that I just hand off to the CPU. I personally control certain key things, but let the CPU do the rest.

The fastest I have finished a Dynasty was in 31 hours. But that particular one I was just running a test of coaching styles. So the only hands-on changes I would make were in the run-pass percentages and the default offense and defense. That sim run was the one that convinced me the game was broken in the percentages. I took a 2-star program to 2 straight national titles by year 16 just by changing coaching styles... No playing, no recruiting... Just coaching style changes...

I have no doubt that I have spent as much time with NCAA as any four of EA's playtesters combined... But it's a nice mental exercise for me... And it gives me practice for planning my conquest of Europe in 2013.
