I will try that, but every time the middle is filled up, he just takes it outside.

hmm cant remember what the play is called in 4-3, fire green maybe? but try the one where the OLBs blitz the outside that might work.. or try shifting D line and LBs

Hey all, I find from playing this game for years that in '06 you not only have more variety but you need to step up in terms of stick skills as well. Also with regards to run defense, I like to use an OLB and keep them wide so that way they can react to outside or inside runs as well as pass. I guess it depends on who you like to control and what schemes you like to run too.

you need to use gap control defense

I learned how to stop the run by taking control of the players. Also you have to know your team pros & cons try finding a taem with a strong d line, using the line stunt are good to. Mainly I focus on a strong front 4 because they will push the blockers back and give the lb to make the tackle. Also use blitzes to blow the play up in the backfield.

Alright thanks for the advice guys, they worked but the only problem that I still have is when he takes the play outside instead of where its suppossed to go. I guess I can't stop every single run, you win some and you lose some.

go 4-3 and press the L1 button for a dl audible, and flick the right analog forward. this will make the dl men crash the middle. blitz the 2 outside linebackers to cover the outside. also, this should be in man coverage with the safties up.

I've posted this defense several times and it is the absolute BEST defense to stop the run and is still good against the pass.
It's out of 4-3. It's the "X" play in the second row. Storm something. It has the LOLB blitzing wide and the SS blitzing as well. Make sure you have the play so that the blitzing safety is on the STRONG side (so flip the play if necessary). Crash the line to the middle (Line audible, analog down) and spread the LB's (LB audible Dpad up). Then bring the blitzing safety down to the LOS halfway between the CB and the OLB and control the other safety and patrol the back side of the play.
The blitzing safety blows up any bouncing to the outside and the crashed line kills anything up the gut. Plus LB's are in great positions to back up any broken tackles. Also, the blitzing backside LB is there to close down the cut back lane.
This D is still good against the pass as well because the CB's are in man, the ROLB takes the TE, the MLB take the FB and the FS is manned up with the RB. So everyone is still accounted for, plus the blitzing SS gets in VERY fast and the blitzing OLB on the other side doesn't allow your opponent to roll away from him.

I agree with the concept, but it doesn't work on the game. The LB will get blocked by the TE. The LB's cannot cover the outside. You need to blitz the Safety and bring him down in order to stop the bounce to the outside.

Hey man, thanks for the advice it worked for the most part. The play is red storm I think, there is no x in it for those who wanna use it. I did like you said and it stuffed it, the only time he got god runs was when I was in a pass D, or when my guy missed the tackle. Right now I have a 3 game winning streak on him, Thanks.

LOL, you must play on XBox. I meant "X" Play as in the button you press to select it. It would be the "A" Play on the Box.
I'm glad it worked for you. I'm telling you it's the absolute BEST run stop D. :D

I noticed that I needed to improve my stick skills in order to stop the run. Against I form I call 4-3 coverages that bring the SS up about a yard deep of the box (or the FS, depending on the strength of the formation ) and then I control him.
I prefer this to controlling a backer because you have a little more time to react to the ball because you're playing with a little more depth and you don't usually have a lineman coming directly at you. I have found that this is especially effective against tosses because the SS/FS has the speed to beat pulling lineman and blow up the play before he hits the corner. Even if you can't make the play, you'll take away the perimeter and he'll have to cut it back into the in the cluster.
If they'e running in the middle, just hold back a second, wait for the line and FB to pick up their blocks and you'll usually get a straight shot at the runner.
The only time I have a hard time with this strategy is when I'm up against bigger backs; they can just run me over. If this happens I usually manage to slow him down enough for some people to catch up. Here's some good coverages for this:
(4-3, dime, nickle)
1. Cover 3-Switch and Normal
2. Cover 1
3. Any of the six man blitzes

Lol, nope play on PS2 too. Didn't know from what direction you meant, and if you go up one there is a play with x in it, lol, but yeah thanks again.
