View Full Version : Relevance of Player Discipline & Potential

Having bought and played the last three editions of this game, I have yet to see any real correlation between a player's potential or discipline and the actual outcomes in those areas. Example, I suspended my SR starting FS for four games for an NCAA investigation. The problem I have is that his discipline was an 'A'. And that isn't the first time. I have had A and B players show up for disciplining way too often.
Also when it comes to potential, has anyone really tracked how much a players numerical ratings increase year over year to see if potential has any impact on that whatsoever?
I like both of these concepts; it just seems like EA has made it too random and that is frustrating.

I think discipline is completely random. NCAA interest is very high in my Arkansas dynasty, yet my team discipline is an A and I've suspended A discipline players for at least one more game than what is suggested.
EAS needs to get a clue.
I am also curious about potential, training, and rating improvements. It seems a lot of the guys I recruit have poor potential.

Right, I've noticed a bunch of my recruits having poor potential too, even when they are in the RedZone top 50. How does that make sense?

All in-season recruits have good potential regardless of what it says during the season. Just go look at your in-season committed players at the beginning of off-season recruiting, and you will see they all have good potential.
I know discipline is completely random with A+ discipline players getting in just as much trouble as F graded players. As far as potential goes I haven't done any experimenting with it, but maybe someone could recruit only 2* prospects with varying potentials and compare the training results over a 4 year period.

In 2005, I was playing with Mizzou on dynasty mode (All American) and around season five the NCAA suspended me and I lost scholarships. Bear in mind that the NCAA Interest was next to nil and I had only had a handful of discipline cases (each player suspended for the reccomended amount of time or more) through the dynasty.
I played one more season on dynasty cracked down like a Catholic nun on suspensions ( I almost ran out of suspension points) but still got suspended after the season. I even suspended my Heisman winning QB for five games on a fairly minor offense (academic ****) and still got nailed. I said screw it and signed with Florida.

See, that right there is the problem. I like the idea of player discipline and NCAA interest in schools playing a role but it should have some relation to the meters, bars and rankings in the game. But as everyone seems to attest, they don't. I have read somewhere that EA has programmed some 2 or 1 star players to end up being diamonds in the rough. If so, I like that too since real college programs have that happen often where a walk-on breaks onto the scene and plays well. But other than some vague recollection of reading that somewhere, I don't have any direct evidence of that.
