Well first off for scouting this should be your "bible" right here:

Madden Draft Guide (http://www.wahoosoftware.com/Duped/stuff/maddenscout.html)

Thanks to coopsxx for putting that up.

I'd like to work on updating this guide with new and or unlisted scouting reports so if you find anything new or not listed in the guide post it up.

Also feel free to post any other helpful hints regarding scouting rookies and drafting etc.

I'll also be posting a thread on my rebuild of the Colts defense later on this week. Peace.

I'll start by adding one. It went a little something like this:

"He's so fast he shouldn't even be a TE. Move him to WR."

He was a TE with 84 speed.

Another thing I noticed is there will be a QB projected in the Top 5 but the scouting report wil say Terrible arm strength and terrible pass accuracy. So why the frick is he projected for the top 5???

Hey,
I noticed the same thing, and after drafting a few to check, I think what has happened is that the range of scores that are "amazing, "great," etc... are much smaller than last year. It actually sort of makes sense - how useful is the data when almost every QB in the draft is either "Amazing-Amazing," "Great-Amazing," or "Amazing-Great?" Any QB in the 70s on one of those scores shouldn't be "Good."

I'll post a clarification when I get to play it more, but so far that's what it seems like.

Another thing I've noticed is that the overall speed of prospects is much much higher than last year. This year it's pretty routine to find a LB with 8x speed. When last year you'd be hard pressed to find a fast LB like that.

Brutal Attack
08-15-2005, 03:20 PM
This is commonly seen with QBs:

Speed: "Sort of a Jake Plummer or Jeff Blake in terms of speed."

Injury: "Tough, gutsy kid who shrugs off minor injuries and keeps going."

Defensive End:

STR: "Shows great playing strength when taking on the blocker."

Cornerback:

Tackle: "He delievers sledgehammer hits-as a corner."

????: "Does an excellent job of reaching round to deflect the pass."

Outside Linebacker:

Speed: "Excels hitting the stunts at full speed from the outside."

This guy runs a 4.43 40 in the combine.

Middle Linebacker:
Speed: "Displays great range to make opposite-field tackles."

This guy ran a 4.58 40 in the combine.

If anyone can connect the rest of those with a stat range that would be great.

Madden Generated players are MUCH better and realistic this year. That and the combination of having their faces on the stats screens are reasons for much rejoicing.

what ive noticed:

much more talent.
i can get upper 70s in the 6-7th round fairley easy. and lower 80s in the 2nd

more power backs
lasy year i never saw rb with 88str and 89 spd, now i see them all the time, as a matter of fact tehre like 9 in FA and im in only my 4th year or so

lineman are good
the diffrence from a top 5 pick OL and a 6th rounder about 5 overall points
you can find ol with amazing pass and run block with great interview and upper 30s bench reps in the 6th round. As a result you wont see me paying 8 mill for a 97 ovr LT ill just draft a 6th rounder sign him 7 years and develop him.

quick backers and strong are easier to come by (move em to de)
so are good corners

ive noticed that development seems harder, but i sim most my seasons if i were to play them and go 16-0 im sure theyed develop quicker

thanks for the update draftmaster, I am a fan of the power back, I love up the middle runs. Good to hear they are around, 04 and 05 were bad, 05 was just horrible for RB's lots of crap. very slow.

thx for the info.

last year the madden generated rooks were so bad that I didn't bother with franchise. Building a team through the draft is my fav part of franchise.

i also noticed people dont progress

my year one simmed franchises went 8-8 and the only person who progressed was my Dt he had 17 sacks and progressed 1 point overall

my qb has thrown almsot 100% of hte passes the last 2 years and has dropeed points.

he didnt have a good first year but niether did payon manning

my RB has ran for over 1200 the last 2 years and no progression.

thjis is on all sim.

maybe that is just it. Maybe you have to play some games to get some progression

i haven't played much franchise yet cuz i've been busy with online, but im guessing the lack of progression is because in 05 you could have a 99ovrl team in just a couple of seasons, i guess EA wanted to shift the focus of progressing a team to training camps and free agency/trade acquisitions.

I think team stats have a big impact on progression. My Eagles defensive players are progressing nicely when we are winning and keeping opponents scores low. My O guys progress when we are winning and scoring a lot.

I think it's player and team performance combined.

When I started looking for an OT,this is something I got from my scouts during rookie scouting:
"provides valuable leadership and depth to the Offensive Line".

What attribute should that go under when trying to figure the rookie grade?

Wow I've never seen that one. I'd say it's probably going to go toward AWR attribute. Tough to say though. If you draft him post his stats and all of the scouting comments.

BA,
I finished my Draft by the time I read your post, so I don't remember what the rest of the remarks were to give me the players ratings.

The player is Andrew Whitworth
He graded out like this:
OVR Spd Str Awr Agi Acc Jmp Pbk Rbk Imp Sta Inj Tgh
81 53 92 71 54 88 38 89 82 60 78 89 88

Hi, he has pretty good AWR for a rookie so I'd bet that comment was directed to AWR.

Hey guys,

I've noticed that to get progression you really have to do well with the player in question. I just finished my first preseason with the 9ers and all of my defense progressed but only my running back went up. My QB went down by one point. My first game was on pro and i won 38-7 so i pumped it up to all pro. Very close low scoring games (3-0 win, 6-0 loss). Needless to say I was dissappointed so I'll put it back down to pro so I'll have time to master the new passing system as I have yet to direct the qb's attention from his primary receiver. Luckily my run skills have held up (plus i traded Barlow, 1st, & 2nd rounder for Tatum Bell.)

By the way, can someone tell me how to move a player to a different position? Thanks in advance.

Which version, if it's Ps2 or XBox you go to player management then go to edit _____ (i forgot what it is) then go to position and scrol with left and right.

Cannon, you can do that under "Roster", and then you can go to "Depth Chart". You are limited to what you can do. You can no longer make a punter play DT. I have made my middle linebacker switch to the outside since he has better speed. Hope that helps.
Also, in regards to faces being seen in this year's game, in ESPN 2K5, they had faces of real people attached to all rookies. They only had like 10-15 different faces, but it was a nice touch that EA should condider in the future.

Thanks Oshow, I know what you mean. I was referring to the changing of a players position in player management which was mentioned earlier on this page.

Hey all. This is some really great stuff. I've just started my franchise. I created a smash mouth team and replaced them with Arizona. I run most of the time and my O-line progressed great in the preseason. 3 points for 2 of them. But since I don't throw alot my QBs all dropped a point.

I havn't gotten to the draft yet and my question is do scrambling QBs still have ratings all over the place like spd:82 agl:39 acc:41 and spd:50 Agl:77 acc:90?

No, they make more sense now. The good athletes are actually have good stats.

Sweet, I can finally run my offense this year. :) Would be better if I could use my custom PB :(

I myself am very impressed with the draft this year...good job EA. I have a question about signing draft picks that has'nt been answered.....On the pc version you can sign your picks cheap if you want....on the XBOX you can't.

Example:XBOX Version... 1st Rounder wants 16 million for 4 years.....you may be able to sign him for 1 or 2 million less

Pc Version: You could sign the same guy for around 6 mill. The same as last year...

Question: Does this at all affect a players performance when you give them the least amount on their contract? Thanks

No. The only thing that can effec thier performance is if they are pissed off about playing time.

Thanks Brutal Attack for the response :) ......I suppose then the only thing they could do is have a Hold Out if they wanted more money....It seems diiferent aspects of the game are different vs. pc & console versions. Again I can't say it enough that I'm very pleased with the Draft this year since I could'nt import drafts on the Pc version.

What is the most athletic anyone as seen a QB in the draft?

I use the created smashmouth team in my franchise and I look for QBs that can run because when I do pass (which isn't alot lol) I do rollouts and QB sprints.

I have only done 2 drafts and have drafted 2 QBs and they have been in the mid 70s and high 60s in spd, agl, acl ratings. Which is just fine for what I need but has anyone seen a Vick? or atleast a QB in the 80s as far as those 3 ratings go?

Brutal Attack

I haven't seen a MGD draft one. I did get a few in 2005 but my guess is they are few and far between in 2006.

Yea, it seems that way from what i have seen so far. Its all good I'm happy with the 70 spd. But I'm always looking out for that perfect QB lol.

Brutal Attack

QB speed doesn't seem to be as effective as it was last year. I guess maybe linebackers are just faster but it seems like even 80 spd on a QB sometimes doesn't beat the backers to the corner.

Chomppig
09-07-2005, 12:03 AM
I have notice that too. It seems like when running at an angle just about every defender can catch a fast QB but when running in a straight line the QB can outrun the ones that he should be able to.
