I have been playing madden since 2001 but i dont think a player's speed rating has ever improved in franchise mode. Can it improve??? and if so HOW ??

I don't think there is any way to improve speed. ACC can be improved in the trench fight drill. You can't coach speed so you have to draft it and work on the other weaknesses.

I saw Speed increase in Madden 2004 (Nick Barnett) but not since then. That's why speed is my top drafting/trading criteria as compared with attributes which can change.

You can improve ACC in the WR drill too.

I'm not sure but i believe you can do it in training camp. It may just be acc.though. I will reply back after my next camp if no one has answered this yet. I wish i could be more help.

I can verify that Nick Barnett's speed went up in Madden 2004. I had at least 4 franchises, both sim and play with him (I always did fantasy draft and I always drafted him) and everytime his speed went up. I am fairly certain there were a few other players in 2004 that did the same thing, but it's been a while.
I've never noticed it happen in 2006, but I've only just started playing franchises...

I have Derrick Johnson in my M2006 franchise and he has gone up in speed after each of the last two seasons. He is a 91 SPD now. He's good....really good.
However, I haven't seen anyone else do this.

I've had my Middle LB's speed go up before. I believe it was only two points and that was the only position I've ever seen it go up.

In 2004 the MLB speed would go up. In 2006 I've seen the OLB speed go up. i beleive this only happens at end of season progression though. during the season only tackle and AWR goes up

I have seen Troy Williamson speed go up. It went because he use to burn the defense constantly. I mean atleast have 5-7 yards on the defensive back. That is the only reason I see for his speed going up for me.

Speed will increase for some players in the offseason but there is no way for you to do it.

Interestingly, in my Franchise, Derrick Johnson's SPD went up. He's a second-year player with 90 SPD and 92 ACC. I got him some STR in the minicamps, and he's a monster.
I can also second the Nick Barnett thing -- I'd seen his SPD go up before, too.

Also, in this year's game, check your progression during the off-season, as you will see ACC increases also. Can't remember if I got SPD increases or not.

A rare occurance is a rookie who will actually have a nominal (1 to 3 point) speed improvement. Rare, but it does happen.

I haven't noticed any speed going up, but I am thinking that maybe if it does go up might'n it be tied to the training staff that you have in your franchise? The better training staff you have and what they are best at could help maybe? Any thoughts as to that? Those guys who had speed go up what was your training staff like for your franchise?
I haven't gotten to the end of my first season yet but I'll see when I get there. I didn't see any changes in last year's game only decreases as players got over 31ish!

training staff effects injuries and that's about it as far I know.
