Any opinions on the new batch of rookies? I'm very curious about Braylon Edwards. I didn't pay much attention to him when I drafted my franchise but that was before I saw how height and jumping are more important this year.

I can recommend two players so far: Jordan Beck (MLB) and Adrian McPherson (QB). McPherson seems like a much better Seneca Wallace and Beck reminds me of Jonathon Vilma. I also have Adam Jones and Fabian Washington but I want to play more games before I form an opinion. So far, so good though.

Fabian Washington is an absolute stud. There isn't any way he CAN'T be elite with his physical tools. He is about a 95 OVR for me at age 26.

I also wonder about the guy from San Diego State, Matt McCoy. I really like him in this years draft.

ill second fabien hes so fast and quick

ill tell you who sucks. all the qbs! im just pissed im having a real tought time wiht offense this year. i just played a game won 38-7. only reason i scored 38 is cuss i had 7 ints 2 returned most returtned to within the 30. i didnt have one long *** drive. also i had like 10 sacks and a ff.

if i didnt kick so much *** at D my 175 yards total O. sure wouldnt have held up.

when i fantasy draft, i try not to get too many rookies because a lot of them are very good and it don't seem fair. but if u notice a lot of the offensive linemen may not have very high OVR but they can block well, so they are good to pick up if u want.
it's always nice to get a fast young LB, like derrick johnson, or that dude from dallas, kevin burnett maybe? adam jones and fabian are good, nick collins is good. braylon is good, along with williamson and mike williams. basically all rookie wr's are good. QB's arent that good, they are all okay IMO. i dunno if any DL are good. ronnie brown is VERY good. that's all i can think of for now.

I was playing online with the saints and aaron brooks went down... so I had bouman in then he threw a pick and im like screw him... I put in cpherson.. 1st pass incomplete 2nd pass TD 79 yards what!!! for the game tying touchdown in the 4th qtr... I ended up winning that game... he's a "MADDEN" star

To the best of my knowledge, Adrian MacPherson's only stat that's higher than Seneca Wallace is THP. Now, it could be that THP is that important, but AWR and THA are pretty important this year, too, and MacPherson's actually slower. THP is hard to increase over time, but the others are relatively easy, so if you can get points from mini-camps to throw to THP, Seneca has more upside than MacPherson.

Pat makes a great point about Derrick Johnson. I also like Shawne Merriman -- 75 STR puts him up ahead of most pass rushing DEs. Kevin Burnett is a steal for the same reason. The computer seems to draft Ronnie Brown very late in a Fantasy Draft, and he's a great back.

Someone check out Matt McCoy. I think he went 2nd round so he may not even be in the game.

bump.

I think this is a great topic. Let's expand it to to rookies and second year players. My favorite rookie in the game would have to be ROnnie Brown. THe guy looks like a mini me of Jerome Bettis, but has 93ovr speed. My favorite second year players would have to be Eric Colesman FS for Jets who is very good in pass coverage. If building a team, I would have have both of them on it.

WHo are yours.

I think Frank Gore is awesome. I saw my brother using him and he broke like every single tackle. Uhhh... off the top of my head I'd say McPherson could be a great QB and that Ronnie Brown is not that good. I used him in a former franchise and he sucked so bad. Like 1.25 yards per carry. Edwards looks good. But Troy Williamson was an absolute monster. 96 SPEED!!!!!!!!!! Deep ball looks good with him

my favorite rookie would have to be, pacman jones, this kid is amazing already hes got amazing speed( i think 96 ) and has great accel/agility. his awerness is very low but then that is no problem becuase if you go to playoffs one time his awerness will shoot up like 15. Also his jump is 96 which allows him *as a rookie* to compete with and shutdown a teams first receiver. i always draft him and i have huge success with him. My favorite second year player has to be either, Sean Taylor or DeAngelo Hall. Hall is an amazing corner in real life and in the game, hes 85 overall and only 21 years old. which makes for a GREAT franchise player

If you are doing an NCAA draft import: Wyatt at CB and Hall at WR. Both go in 3rd round or later as mid 70's and are great players in Madden.

I got my NCAA 2006 Rosters and Draft Classes on Ebay bought from seller; The-Wicked-Net

u know whos a real steal? Demarcus Ware

Dumb Daddy
08-29-2005, 03:55 PM
Over the weekend I had an 11 sack game with Jordan Beck (All-Pro, 5 min quarters). Urlacher got hurt so Beck finished the game. It wasn't a huge shock since he had 16 sacks in 4 halves during pre-season. (Yes, I blitz a lot)

Demarcus Ware had 2 interceptions against me so I agree with the previous poster.

Kevin Burnett was all over the field when I played against him so he's on my watch list.

I'm not sold on Troy Williamson. He's dropped passes that he shouldn't have and has shown alligator arms a few times .

Alex Barron has done well at OT when I've given him a chance, as has Chris Spencer (C).

I think that the MGD's are better than most of this year's rookies, from my limited sample size. I'll probably draft fewer 2005 rookies in the future to allow more room for MGD's.

He's fast and I like that.

olb Shawnie Merriman and switch him to DE. He goes from 85 to 94
olb Demarcuse Ware
cb Fabian Washington
s Brodney Pool
olb Kevin Burnett
dt Luis Castillo

I am Happy with all these guys in the order they are listed

killacs
09-17-2005, 03:44 PM
fabian washington db
pacman jones db
shawnie merriman olb as someone alrdy said switch him to de
kevin burnett olb switch him to de w/ merriman
derrick johnson olb
nick collins ss
ronnie brown rb hes available late and worth it
then imo the biggest steal you can have. mike williams wr his height and jumping are out of this world. just max his acc in training camps. then when you play games leave everyone but 2 wrs to block and send them up field and have a jump ball in the end zone take control of williams yourself and you will come down with it most of the time

RUNNINGBACK
<b>Back Up:</b>
I'm a Giants fan and I've been using Brandon Jacobs alot. His break tackle is like 85 and strngth is around 80's. You can truck stick any DBs or LBs...maybe not Ray Lewis or Kendrell Bell consistently...or any other superstar LBs with good tackling and strngth...prally not Sean Taylor or Roy Williams either, but other than that he'll run over most defenders, just like in real life. But of course, you'd have to be in good position (angle...whatever you call it) to run over the defenders.

<b>Starter:</b>
Ronnie Brown, Dolphins
I like Ronnie Brown too. Good all around player, but a HEFTY contract. Since I have Tiki on my team...I just stick with my RB's: Tiki and Hightower.

WIDEOUTS
<b>2nd WR:</b>
Matt Jones, Jaguars
I usually trade Toomer for Matt Jones. He has good speed, catch, jumping, and carry ("carry" stat is important for me cuz I run Matt Jones in the middle on most passing plays). AWR is low, but like I said, he's usually running in the middle of the field so I can see where the defenders are at and where I have to throw it.

<b>2nd WR:</b>
Mike Williams, Detroit
same as Jones...but just a lil bit slower. Better hands and AWR than Jones, but I think Williams has a big contract also. I don't like to spend alot of $$ on WR's. I don't like to spend at all. I'm a cheap GM...

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS
<b>Starters:</b>
the usual...Derrick Johnson, Merriman, or Demarcus Ware. Never Tried Burnett. But the best LB you can get on the outside is DJ Williams(from last years draft) He's got it all speed, strength, tackle, AWR(for a second year player), catch, good contract, and plus he's only 22 or 23.

<b>Back Up:</b>
Beck, Falcons
Beck is an undersize MLB, but he's strong enough to play the middle. He's got good strngth, speed, and tackle. I usually pick up Beck for spcial teams and as the first linebacker to come off the bench. He's a 73 OVR MLB, but I usually move him to weakside to back up BOTH outside LB's for the season. When you move him to OLB, he has a 79 OVR. Nice pick up...perfect guy for special teams, and guy who can back up three LB positions.

<b>Back Up:</b>
Robert McCune, Redskins
McCune is a 25 or 26 year old rookie, but he has all the physical talent syou need for a back up LB. His AWR is low, very low, so I wouldn't put him on the field UNLESS you are controlling him or you're blitzing him. He's got very good speed, tackle, strngth and acceleration. He's a perfect guy for special teams or to back up all of yer LB's. If you run a 3-4 Defense....MAKE SURE you pick up this guy. You can keep him to back up yer MLBs or move him outside side to back up all of LB positions.

<b>Back Up:</b>
Reggie Torbor, Giants
I usually keep this guy. DE/LB tweener who has good size, speed, acc, and tackle for special teams and to back up both OLB positions.

TIGHT END
<b>Back Up:</b>
TE Alex Smith from Tampa Bay is pretty good too...he's usually my 2nd string TE/2nd string FB. Good value.

I'll try to think of more players...

SAFETY
<b>Back Up:</b>
Donte Nicholson, Tampa Bay (?)
69 OVR but good physical skills as a yer 4th Safety. He can play special teams and on passing packages.

DEFENSIVE TACKLE
<b>Back Up:</b>
Anthony Bryant,Tampa Bay
a strong nose tackle for goaline packages. He only has a 69 OVR, but has a 95 strngth and very low acceleration. Put this guy right above the center on Goaline packages, and he'll clog that middle(taking two or maybe even three guys with him). This way you can spread out yer 1 and 2 DT's or rest them.

i have brandon jacobs in my texans franchise. his AWR is very low, but i don't think that matters, he's a great change of pace for domanick davis.
Travis Johnson is the perfect DE for a 3-4 defense. he has 65 speed and 85 strength, but has high acceleration, you can always switch him to DT.
the best thing to do with a young CB is to put him on special teams to get a lot of tackles and once his awareness gets into the 70's, start him. i have the best set of CB's in the NFL with phillip buchanon and dunta robinson, buchanon can catch a lot of int's and is a threat to go all the way. i'm working on progressing roc alexander to be my nickelback replacing faggins.

Yea, Travis Johnson is a nice rookie DE. Don't forget about he other young 3-4 Ends/4-3 Tackles: Darnell Dockett and Tommie Harris.

OL: Kemuatu (RG)
Kieft (LT).
They have great strength and I dig that in oline.

WR: Troy Williamson. He's just great. I plaayed him as a slot receiver and became my go to guy, even with Stallworth and Rogers on the field.

Defense:
Burnett (ROLB) and Derrick Johnson. (SPD, duh).
Pacman Jones is my 3rd CB. He's fine in Nickle and Dime situations, also becasue Deion Sanders is my 4th, and his high AWR prevents the comp from throwing at him.

Safeties: Fox (forgot his 1st name) at Free and Nick Collins at Strong. SPD...
