How do you get new pipeline states? How many recruits do you have to get, and how can you lose a pipeline state?

3 is the magic number. Only if you have 3 or more players from a particular state will it will be considered a pipeline state. Pipelines will only increase player interest, they won't decrease the points to recruit.

Pipelines are a good thing... I made sure to get 3 kids from Texas and California in my first year. THIS IS A GOOD THING!!! Being that I use FSU I already had Florida covered.

Sometimes I need four players from a state to make it a pipeline.
