View Full Version : Why not 2 sets of Rankings?

its obvious to me that there are TWO kinds of Madden players.

There are the sim/straight ballers. Guys who want a game that is as close to the real NFL as possible.

And then you have the other guys. Lets call them the arcade guys. These are the guys who want to win no matter what kind play it takes. this means going for it on 4th down from their 25 in the 3rd quarter. This means they want to run around regardles of qb vision cones etc and light the score up. Realism is not their priority, while winning still is.

So what I suggest is having 2 sets of rankings. One where anything goes and another with very strict simulation rules that are enforced. One with the vision cone and one without. That way both kinds of players have their rankings, but they are not miffed at one another whne they run into someone with that style of play. They know what to expect.

Make these types of play available when searching for games.

This same type of segregation has worked before in other genres. For instance, Everquest separated thier gamers by players vs player server, player vs monster server AND role playing only servers. This allowed those who had different styles of playing the same game to do so without interfering with one another. It worked out very well and everyone was happy.

So we should have a Sim Baller ranking and a Arcade Baller ranking. Crossover would be allowed, but the player could at least know what to expect when he played a game online.

While you can say that the system already allows for this, the problem is that there is no separate ranking so there is no prestige in having the highest ranking in Madden Hardcore.

Anyways its just an idea to help stop the complaining that occurs between the sim players and the arcade type players.

apparently no one else did .. b leh

I just hate the complaining you see and the fact that if I want a sim game, sometimes I will find it, most times not

Good idea.

There should be a raking for HARDCORE players, and another for FAIR PLAY players. Saying one is STR8/SIM and the other is arcade is slightly insulting.

I personally choose to play by simulating the rules of the NFL, while some choose to simulate the look of the NFL. That includes 4 downs, the possibility of No-Huddle offense at any time, Unlimited substitutions, onside kicks potentially at anytime, etc. Others may choose to limit 4th downs, no-huddle, onside kicks, and substitutions.

It's just two different perspectives... One is a coaching perspective, the other is a spectator perspective. Having a ranking system for both is overdue.

sorry did not mean to be insulting. We just want to play the game in different ways. Either way, a separate ranking is one way to make both groups happy.

This may sound a bit crazy, but why does it matter what the other guy does? If its 4th and 26th and he's not punting, then the guy on defense should feel good that he's got 26 yards to go for a 1st down. There's a reason its 4th and 26, so pin your ears back and get after him.

There are plenty of coaches in the NFL that don't play by the Old Rules,
Mike Martz and his "Best Show on Turf"
Andy Reid and his short passing is a good running game philosophy
Dick Vermeil and his potent KC offense and vastly improving D is another example of a coach that thinks "outside the Box."
There have been other's, somebody mentioned Steve Spurrier and his Fun-n-Gun, but don't forget the predecessor to the F-n-G was Jerry Glanville's Run-n-Shoot. Football is what it is, a game of Strategy that is played with and extreme amount of Controlled Violence. If your strategy is sound and your players are able to carry out the objective of the coaching staff, you have a better than average chance of succeeding.

I have learned the hard way, I used to fight up-stream if you will. I would go for it and 4th and yo mama, but after giving up great field position and easy scores, I realized that I was losing more games because I was gambling recklessly. I will still go for it on 4th downs, but it depends on my field position, how well my defense has played and what quarter were in, it all needs to be factored into your decision to go for it on 4th down. Once you understand the game and your personnel, how you use it is up to you.

Don't forget, Philly Vs GB in 2003, 4th and 26, D Mac to the Peoples Champ!
So, let the gamblers gamble. A good coach will have a play designed to stop 4th and longs. Ask Coach Sherman if he devised a 4th and long defense and I bet he will say he has one now.

Beat me with it once, good for you. Beat me with it twice, Shame on ME.

The difference is that I would like to be able to set up for punt return every now and then when its fourth and one and the opponent is on his 20 yard line, as opposed to watching almost helplessly while the guy does a QB sneak that is near impossible to stop. I have stopped it a few times, but its really annoying honestly. If is late in teh game then fine, but in the 1st quarter, its really just taking advantage of the mechanics of teh game as opposed to being gutsy or tricky. That is just one instance of what I am talking about and why hardcore was implemented to begin with.

Setting up a separate ranking system would be easy to implement; they would not have to re-invent the wheel. So why not throw the hardcore guys a bone while aliviating stress in the community at the same time??
