Does anyone use the wishbone much? I've been experimenting and I've found that Wishbone tight boot or something like that is a GREAT goalline play, out to about the 3 yard line. The FB and TE are usually open, but you have to sprint with the QB after the fake to get away from the pressure before you throw it. I also like running the inside counter and all of the option plays from this formation. Triple Option pass is good, too, and watch for the backside HB on his wheel route, that's a nice completion if you can get it to him.

I'll have to take a look at it.

yes, i love the wishbone. i remember using it against dj some and he said it would give him headaches cuz it was so tough to use. the only thing is you can't run a straight wishbone offense cuz there isn't more than one wishbone formation in any of the playbooks its in. you are right, the inside counter is an awesome play.

The wishbone owns, and if there was a playbook that had all 3 wishbone formations, or at least had 2 of the 3 (and some other power run formations), I'd be running that offense to this very day.

I use it a lot, Wishbone Normal, Power is a Killer play I run it about 6 times a game, which sets up PA Post and PA Boot is a good play and if your QB can run so is Triple Option Counter.

I use Wishbone Normal along with Flexbone Wide and I form Twin TE, when I need a change in my Goalline offense, they both work really well inthe redzone/end of game (clock eating) power running.

Man, I wish there was a playbook that you could use online that had wishbone normal in it.

Option Run Playbook
Like I said, I wish there was a playbook that you could use ONLINE that had wishbone normal. You can't use any of the generic playbooks (option run, balanced pass, west coast, etc...) online.

For you guys who haven't seen the wishbone in action, here's a sweet video that gives you some ideas about the things that OU did out of it. And this doesn't include the passing game for the TEs that we had, which was killer as well:

I just wish they had more variations in the plays and formations, they are missing the unbalanced line and some backfield variations that the Wishbone uses and they don't have any plays that fake to the FB and hand off to a HB almost every play out of the wishbone should have some kind of fake involved.

You can kind of create your own unbalanced look by subbing an extra O Lineman in at TE. I forgot about doing this a couple of games ago, and the guy caught a TD pass on the boot I mentioned earlier in this thread. It was a nice catch, I really zinged it at him. After he caught it, I was like "what the heck? #61!"

Wow, this thread inspired me to start using the Wishbone, and wow is it effective. I don't play online, just against Heisman cpu in dynasty. I labbed it along with a bunch of flexbone sets and I don't see how anyone can think the flexbone is more effective. In flexbone, the only thing that works is the option plays. The WB runs in flexbone are like a guaranteed 5 yard loss because of the blocking.
On the other hand, wishbone lets you move the ball with all three of the backs, with the option or without. HB Lead, HB Power, Inside Counter, even Power Toss (!!!) are effective out of all three wishbone sets. The PA passes are extremely effective because even the cpu bites, believing it's a run. This is especially true of Wishbone Tight - PA Boot.
I've been ripping it up with both of my top HBs and my QB. I'm running a hybrid type option run system.

I'm starting to use more Wishbone and less Flexbone too. In the Flexbone all u got is the triple option. The WB run plays are not as bad as last year but they still don't work and I've never been able to pass consistently out the Flex.
The reason I'm getting into the Wishbone so much now is because its the perfect blind of my 2 favorite offenses. The Triple Option and the Power running game.
My Playbook
Wishbone Tight
Wishbone Normal
Wishbone Wide
Power-T Normal
Power-T Wide
Shotgun Split
Shotgun 2 backs
SHotgun Tight
Shotgun Bunch

Looks very similar to my playbook.
Actually, this thread inspired me to go back to using the WB.

The one play the Wishbone doesn't have that it needs is the speed option. Thats why I use the Power-T formations in my offense they have good speed options.
The HB inside smash out of WB-wide is a easy 5 yards atleast everytime. I like to use that play on second down to set up a 3rd and short if I was just stuffed on 1st down. It works most of the time. The blocks setup perfectly on this play. Other inside runs out of the wishbone like Double Iso and HB lead have u running at an angle when u get the ball and it feels like u should take it to the outside, but when u get the ball on HB inside smash its at a perfect angle going up the middle and the FB and the other HB block their a** off for u.

For those of you wishing to use a wishbone formation online i would recommend Rice's playbook, it has a few shotgun to get you by if you need to pass and wishbone tight it dominant. In fact, im in my second year with Rice and ive yet to attempt a pass in 8 games(8-0 AA). It really makes me work on defense because i cant afford to fall behind, plus its old school, 4 horseman-like.

What type of FB are best to recruit for the Wishbone? Recieving or Blocking? I have been useing recieving FBs cuz I like to run with the FB alot.
