I have a conundrum....

I am in the offseason of year 3. Westbrook is 29 years old has 2 years left on a fat contract and is a 92 OVR, Moats has progessed to 85 OVR in his 3 year and has 1 year left on his contract.

Steven Jackson is only 25, an 87 OVR and is available in FA. I would LOVE to add him....BUT, I can't afford him AND Westbrook, plus Jackson needs lots of carries to be effective (between the tackles guy y'know). I need cap room to lock up some young players long term so a big plus to trading Westbrook

So here's the possibilities;

Do nothing, keep Westbrook and try to extend Moats to replace him when Westbrooks contract expires.

Sign Jackson, trade Westbrook, let Moats contract expire and then sign a lower priced BU in the off-season, OR if his morale is good keep him too.

I have Dungy as my coach and a new coaching staff (Reid retired after the 3rd season and 3rd Super Bowl). I figure Dungy and the OC would want to bring in some of their own personnel so Jackson might be a good Edgerrin James type back, power with a little bit of ACC and good hands

Plus he's cheaper than Westbrook and 4 years younger..

im never a fan of westbrook but he always gets in mvp voting in my franchises so if your simming the games keep westbrook untill he starts losing speed. just when draft time comes around start looking for running backs who run 4.25s

If you still have mcnabb and like to pass alot, I would keep westbrook. He is the best fit for the eagles offense.

I prefer drafting to replace my top players. I would keep westbrook and get rid of Moats, and draft a top 5 LT wannabe as a backup then in 2 years he will be a 88-89 (or higher) and be your starter.

All good points, THANKS.

The intrigue of Jackson is he's the more prototype back that the Eagles haven't used in a while. With Dungy and McNabb we'll still pass a lot, but I kind of like the idea of Jackson/Moats with Moats as the speed back on 3rd downs and change of pace. (I bumped his speed up since he's faster than Westbrook according to Childress the Eagles OC).

BUT the other part of me wants to see Westbrook end his career as an Eagle. But I need some cap room.....!

Any more opinions will be appreciated.

Well, I would keep them both AND draft a Top 5 HB that suits what you want, be it power back or utility back or speed back. Then when Westbrook retires whoever wins the starting job is it. Or go two headed like LJ and Priest.

restrcture westbrooks current deal, and add as much possible to his signing bonus then after that take away from his total salary as much as possible. only do that if you intend on keeping and not trading him

Ended up siging Jackson, trading Westbrook to the Cards for a 2 and a 4.

I used the extra cap room to extend some young guys I wanted to keep around.

I'll miss Brian....., but I finally have a back that can Truck Stick! :D

It's funny. I read all these posts, knew what I'd recommend, and it turns out to be EXACTLY what you did! You trade an old guy for killer draft picks, which you can then trade for someone else. Great job!!
