Hey guys.

I have Madden 06 for the PC, and I have recently discovered the joys of Gommo's Madden editor (http://gommo.homelinux.net/index.php/Projects/MaddenEditor). Along with the team swapper utility I found someplace, I created a cupcake team that I edited a wee bit and then created a new franchise.

One of my plans is to go through the league periodically (maybe 3 times a year) and use the editor to make sure that no teams are doing anything monumentally stupid.

One of the things I would like to do is to help other teams out by changing positions of guys who are playing out of position. Since I can't change players' positions on the PC (honestly, how dumb is that?) I wanted to check here to see if anyone would let me know what the different effects of switching positions is...

Is awareness the only thing that changes? If so, does it always change the same amount, or does it depend on which position the player is going to/from?

Any specifics would be much appreciated!

the stats dont change. Only the OVR. That's because the OVR is calculated differently per position.
however.... I've put an OLB to MLB and his OVR dropped dramatically. That's because AWR is much more important for a MLB than for a OLB.
I don't know for other positions.... I can imagine CTH is more important for a WR than for a HB.

I've changed Winslow to FB... it turned my offense into a rollercoaster. I recomend it.

I've found that if LB isn't as fast as I'd like ( or just doesn't have the overall skills I'd like in a LB), I'll put more weight on him change him to a DE. In some cases his OVR will shoot up b/c of his agility and relative speed/acc. What's nice about this is he can get out in the flats quickly and sometimes pick off a pass or 2 throughout the season.
( back when ya' could create your own "D" playbook, I'd scheme defensive plays where the DE/former LB would drop back in zone coverages, while sending a LB or 2 on a blitz....this really confused the Qb's):)

CB.....if I draft one isn't fast, I'll change him to FS. Conversely, if I have a 'hard-hitting' FS, I'll in some cases
change him to SS. If a CB has exceptional speed and I need a WR, I'll change the CB to WR. In time, when I find better WR's, I'll change him back to a CB. I think the experience at WR makes him a better CB long-term
(when it comes to catching ability.)

I've also changed FB's to TE's, this works well if the FB has decent speed and blocking ability.

I think the key to changing a player's postion is knowing their abilities ( no surprise here).

If you're not using 4 wr's....why bother playing offense. If the "D" doesn't fear your "O" then you've already moved yourself closer to losing.

No offense to you or whoever originally made this statement, but I never run 4 WRs, and my "O" is the most feared in the league. I stay true to the real life Steelers, who dominate "D" 's on the ground.

Changing fast OLBs to DEs can be really cheap sometimes. You get a guy like Shawne Merriman (82 OVR) as an OLB and convert him to DE (96 OVR). If you sim games then he plays extremely well. Otherwise, you have to give him additional weight.

No offense taken. Everyone has their on philosophy. The key is "fear".

The most exceptional one I've seen is the rookie ROLB Jon Alston. I've never even heard of the guy, but he's got 87 SPD, 87 ACC, and 85 STR(!). I happened to be short on DEs in a franchise I was playing so I converted him. I figured maybe his SPD would go down, but he would keep some STR. He went from a 76 OVR ROLB to a 93 OVR RE. He has a 93 OVR with a 45 AWR. He has the highest SPD among all REs and the seventh-highest STR.

I can't help but think 85 STR was some data-entry technician's typo.

I played the Steelers CPU team last night and I thought I was playing the friggin' dink and dunk Eagles! Stupid WCO with no run game. It was pissing me off. I was thinking this isn't Steeler football...

Their defense was bringing the blitz though big time! Farrior, Polamalu etc...

my "o" doesn't seem to strike fear into anyone in the league especially the panthers =[
